Fish rumours

Right the person who told me this ended up with a broken nose, but i can classify some of those rumors...

I found one boy that did one of those rumors with the baking soda and the fish did swell up rapidly and died from it...

As for the pulling a fish backwards by its tail, yes that WILL kill it by drowning it, any fisherman will tell you that, only if the fish has been out of the water for a while, thats when you put it in the water and make gentle movements moving it to and forth to get water flowing in its gills, but if you drag it backwards more than nesseccary it will die, thats why fishin is class one of the hardess sports when you arent trying to kill the fish...

But the third i think not, lemoade is cardon hydrate base as well as wate burst, it will only poison the fish and kill it that why, but they wont explode...

So two are not rumors, there are really sick people out there, and one is rediculas

If you also want to know what happened to two goldfish in a science class in a school where only little dip $h!ts go, they poured acid into their tank and the fish jumped out of the water in pain and straight out the window, and please note it is three stories high

It people like that i would like to get to one side and put them in a tank of acid and see how they like it...

And as i said, the person who did the baking soda thing, i broke his nose

I thought I had heard that you could but some Alkaseltzer into a glass of water if you wanted to "put down" a fish.

Pulling them backwards must be a myth.
I always believed that and then we had a fancy goldfish that got stuck in an old cannon ornament we had in the tank - stuck solid it was.
I took the whole thing out and put it in the bath of luke warm water and slowly pushed its nose and pulled its tail until it loosened up and then i had to pull it backwards the full length of the cannon - 10 inches approx.
Still alive today in my dads pool - 2 years on

I know sharks would drown if they werepulled backwards because they have to keep moving forwards but i've never heard that with normal fish.

thats only most of the bigger sharks. Most aquarium species can sit still and still breath

It drowns them if you pull them backwards for long periods - right - well thankfully Bubble (kids named it) didnt die and is healthy and well

It's good you're thinking about the fishs' comfort, Javentule, but the feezing method still causes stress and pain... for humane methods of euthanasia, chack out this article:

I used to fish a lot and I would have to disagree with method number 2 in the article - decapitation. I have cut the heads off catfish when I was cleaning them ( this was a very long time ago so don't start yelling about how cruel it was) and still watched as their mouths opened and their gills functioned trying to get oxygen. I can't imagine this is a painless method. How would any one know that for sure? I guess another of those sensless government experiments where they hook fish up to monitors and cut their heads off to see if the monitors show pain.

The one method I have heard of that sounds the best is using clove oil which apparently quickly puts the fish to sleep. Then you freeze or or decapitate it.

Also the method quoted about putting them in alka-seltzer seems to be very inhumane. According tot the quote is took several minutes which couldn't have been pleasant for the fish. You are basically depriving the fish of oxygen so it is the same as taking it out of water just probably a little quicker.

I've heard about what some guys do to fish, rumours. To be honest it is disgusting if it is true.

1) if you pull a fish backwards in a tank by it's tail it will drown.

I've heard that if you find one of these guys and drag them by their legs underwater for about 6 hours, they too will drown.

The decapitation method, BTW, pobably does cause some pain as the brain is still functioning until it is deprived of oxygen etc. and any nerves are still sending messages to it (concerning that horrible pain...). Anyway, a humane method of euthanising fish without the use of clove oil, is to smash their head (yes I know that's disgusting) or directly destroy the brain with a needle or similarly sharp object. This is instant and guaranteed to work. Even fish killed using clove oil, BTW, should have their brain destroyed in case they recover - that's one of the reasons you are supposed to keep the fish in a high dose of clove oil for lots of time after it 'dies' or that it is reccomended something else (eg: dicapitation or freezing) is used to complete the euthanasia as there's always a chance the fish will recover and basically suffocate slowly which is inhumane.

I hate the euthanasia thread and dont believe anyone has the right to end a fishes life if its in pain or not. If it asked then maybe but they will have to learn to talk first. If we got cancer or something which would give us a few months to live, i for one would like these months to live as much as possible and then die. What i wouldnt like is for someone to make the decision for me. Just because have a level of pain to deal with doesnt mean living still isnt worthwhile.

I don't know that they do. I was just being facetious. But with some of the things the government does, who really knows.

Trust me, it is no myth about drowning a fish by pulling it backwards, i am glad you goldfish survived its ordeal, but you said you pushed him by his nose and pulled him gently by the tail, thats a good thing to do, because then you wont be appling pressure to just one part of his body and so he would have come free alot easier, and the luke warm water was a good idea since i heard that goldfish become less active and more relaxed in the water is only a few C up from room temp, though it not advisable to allow this to stay like this for long, as you know, they are after all cold water fish...

I just think that people who do these sort of things to living creature are sick in the head, maybe do it to one of two of them, might send out the message that fish do feel pain as any other living thing does, and maybe the next time they do it, why dont they think of a person coming along and laughin in their faces as them drag you about under the water for hours, or put you into a boiling water, or pouring acid over you, and such, it disgusting and inhumane, and i seriously think they need a lesson in that area

I find it hard to make the descision to euthanise or not.. like you said Y2J, it's not really our descision to make.. but if a fish is in severe pain with no chance of recovery, I do.

Sharks dont have to keep moving forward. Some do, but most dont.
