Fish Quiz

I think the question needs to be rewritten to be more specific? Which test kits? Most test for total ammonia NH3 + NH4, not NH3.  I can post pics of color cards by different makers for the same parameter which turn different colors.

ummm... im with tta on that one, but im gonna guess light pink. Just because of the 2nd pic lol. And the test strips I used to use.

I think a negative result would be clear on both those tests while light pink denotes a low value.  So I'll say clear ;)

-Which brand are the first ones on your picture TTA? Are they API? If so I can tell the difference between 40 & 80 ppm on yours much easier than I can on mine - they look exactly the same colour to me at home! Also the 5 - 40 ones are more orange rather than yellow on mine. How strange!
Sorry about the glare, but I'm talking about the extreme right column in this picture

I thought they changed the colour chart for nitrates because people complained it was difficult to read.  I think TTA's pic might be the old version.

Actually I find the one he posted easier to read than mine! lol

I think it might depend which part of the scale you're reading.  If you have high tap nitrates like me then I want to be able to distinguish between 40ppm and 80ppm - which is difficult now - but more people are aiming for 0 nitrates so perhaps they couldn't tell on the old scale.

I don't use it now because it was so hard to tell the difference between 10 & 20 ppm too

I have tried in all sorts of light to determine if there is even the slightest difference between 40 and 80 on the API nitrate scale -- there isn't. All I can say for sure is that my nitrates are above 40 but less than 160.

Wow didnt that question spiral into a debate, should we have a new question? Its been a while.

Ok...

What other parameters affect the ratio of NH3-NH4 besides pH?   (must list two)
