My VT Jimmy was found on my carpet!

It went down like this:

I was changing the water and playing musical bettas. Survivor Guatemala started and I was called out to watch. So Jimmy was in his cup and on my desk with a cover over it so he could jump out while I was out there.

I came back in and I screamed because the cup was on the floor. And where was Jimmy?!! I got down on the floor crying and then I saw him, on the floor 3 ft from the desk in the carpet.

He was dry and stiff. I had no idea what to do, so I grabbed his cup and filled it with an inch of water and stuck him in it. I was balling and suddenly he moves!

He started swimming wildly. And So I put him in his one gallon which was completely clean and every thing. He swam a bit and gulped air.

Now he's lying on the bottom sort of swaying his tail like he wants to swim but doesn't have the energy.

What can I do?? What do I need to do!!!?? I don't want to lose him!!! Please Help!!!!! I don't want to stress him out any more!! I can't lose him!! :-( :-( :-(

If you have any stress coat add a drop of so from that and then leave the lights off in the room. Just let him rest and he'll try to pull through on his own. There really is very litle you can do in these situations but wait.

Bettas are tough, if any fish can make it a betta can. And if he doesn't make it through, don't feel bad. You did what you could, there really is not much you can do. I know it's very frustrating, I've been there.

Best of luck, my prayers and best wished to the both of you.

if he's not moving much, keep the water level low so he can come up for air easily

Thank you for your replys! He is swimming up to the top, there is a plant up there he is sitting on the leaves. He can't seem to be able to see. He is breathing however. He is regaining color.

Gosh I am so worried! But I have to go to bed because I have to get up early tomorrow.

Please, everyone, keep him in your thoughts!!!! :-(

OK, I'm not a betta expert at all, but I once worked at a large chain pet supply store which shall remain nameless. They used to have Bettas that would jump out of those horrible little blue cups and lie around on the floor for hours. Employees would scoop them up then put them back in their cups and in a few hours they were fine. (as fine as you can be living in a cup!)

I have no idea if this is true or not, but one of the employees in the aquatics department told me that bettas can survive outside of water longer than other fish because they can breath through their mouths...like I said I have no idea if this is true! :dunno:

All true, fishfun. Well, I dunno about the fish store part but just putting them back in water usually does the trick, provided you found it in time.

Elise~ Think positive, I hope he pulls through for ya

I hope Jimmy recovers, I'll be thinking of you both! There's really nothing more you can do other than what you're doing, and maybe keep him in a dark room so he doesn't get stressed.

Hugs to you both! x

Doing the betta get well dance hope it helps the poor guy may need to put extra energy into it so it reaches over there

He didn't make it!! :byebye:

They need a smilies that just sits there and crys bullets because there is no other smilie for how I feel right now. I feel so terrible, I know it was all my fault. I should never have walked away from him! I don't know how my door got open, but it was when I got back. I though for sure I had closed it!!! :-( :-( :-(

Rest in Peace Jimmy....at least you had a belly full of live bloodworms (his favorite).

:rip:

So sorry,Elise :(

They're crazy jumpers. It's only happened a couple of times, but I've actually had teeny houdini's jump from holes like this...

It's unbelievable what they can do if determined enough.

Oh Elise, I'm so sorry. You did all you could and Jimmy would be very thankful for it. He had a lovely life with you.

:rip: Jimmy.

Here is his memorial pic...

He was such a cute little guy. Always dancing and wanting attention. He went nutso for the live bloodworms. I found him on a petco shelf half starved and brown. I knew I had to take him right then and there. He was in the beginning, a tail biter and could only eat 2 bloodworms a day, his tummy was so small. Little by little he grew and gained beautiful color. He had a black face with two salmon-pink stripes on his gills. His body and the outline of his fins were bright blue, the rest of his fins were that salmon-pink with faint red spots. He never flared, but always was dancing. I will miss his cute little face. :byebye:
