Fish Not The Same

yeah i think you are border line over stocked, but it is quite simply cruel to keep just four neons. some people might a agree that frogs are fine but in my opinion and experiances they do eat fish. i would'nt always trust the lfs especially when they allow you to purchase only 4 neons. i would suggest at least 10 and a few more plants.

African Clawed frogs get quite big and IMO they should have at least a 20 gallon for one.

I have 4 neon 3 guppy 1 dwarf gourami 1 albino frog 2 Dalmatian Molly

I don't think you should have the mollies in there. They get quite chunky and like plenty of swimming room.

I would suggest you up the numbers of neons to more like 8, keep the guppies and dwarf gourami, and rehome the mollies and frog. Add plenty of plant cover, silk if you don't want live. Feed good quality colour enhancing food.

#41#### just as I thought my tank was ok apart from the lights lol ok I'll look into it the guy said the frog will get no bigger than a 50 pence piece

African clawed frogs can grow up to a length of 5 in

If it makes you feel better i was told i could keep Clown loaches in my 64L :)

Find him a nice new home in a big tank. Horrible especially when you start getting attached to them.

A lot of LFS advice can't be trusted, but I would say this makes them a bad one based on just that. I've gone in and bought 2 cardinals before to top up my shoal. The shopkeeper doesn't know whether the buyer is starting a new shoal or adding to an existing one.

I've found the same with my fish. Fish that look bright, glowing red in the shop are orange when I get them in my tank.

it might be a dwarf frog rather than a clawed frog, in which case it is not a danger to the fish. Regardless though, I would still lean towards rehoming it, and definitely the mollies too. 48L is not very big really, so you need to be careful with how you stock it. A few more neons would go well, and increased planting makes you fish feel safer.

I could be way off base here, but in the pic in your signature, your tank water looks quite cloudy. (Could just be the light...) This will refract more light and it wont reach the bottom as well. I would imagine the tank you have doest have a great deal of room for a particluarly strong light, and if only one of the bulbs is white, even less so.

Light intensity decreases as you get closer to the bottom, and if you only have one low power light, your potentially not getting the level of light you want. Have you tried swapping the blue lamp out for a white one?

Other than that, i would consider removing the original lights, and fitting a new kit.

Yeh I think I am going to change the lights, I pretty sure it's a clawed frog, it's front feet are not webbed? Tank water is not cloudy. Real plants always die on me, I have spent over 30 on real plants and they always go brown and die, any ideas on that?

I was going to say your tank lack hiding place for the fishes. More plants, artificial or real, would help. Where you keep your tank may also be a factor. My small tank is near the doorwary and until recently when I put a load of plants to cover the side next to the door, my cherry barbs were hiding all the time. Now that the fishes can only be viewed from "1" side instead of "2" they are much happier and would come out when I approach. Took a while to figure that out for me.

FYI the tank doesn't look anywhere like my pic anymore, but kept the picture there because it won me TOTM! :p
