Hi I am new to all this I am not sure what the stats are but every time I change some water I put a water treatment in, the temp is 28 what should I do?

Is this the 2ft tank you have?

Sounds like this tank was quite full with baby fish that grow BIG if it is.

Did you cycle this tank? How long has it been running?

Do you have any test kits or even tried getting your lfs to test your water?

do the fish stop gassping after water changes if so its a ammonia / nitrite problom you need to do 70% water changes at least once even twice a day untill your filter catches up with the bio load also you need to buy a test kit for ammonia and nitrite so you know how big a problom you have

its the same after a water change too, how do you change the water twice aday I thought you have to leave the water 24 hours before putting it in the tank? or was I told wrong I thought it would be too cold to put 70% water change in

if your using aquasafe then you should be fine why leave it 24hours if using declore you dont need too you can heat the water a bit with warm water but i think your biggest worry is ammonia and nitrite hard to say without water tests though

hello could you tell me what I am looking for when I do a test strip as I dont know what it should be on thanks I will try one then

you need to be looking for ammonia and nitrite levels i cant really be specific as im not familiar with your test strips as i use liquid tests

I have just done a test we have very hard water could that be it the results are

GH 180
KH 240
PH 6.5
NO2 0
NO3 40

I am not sure what they should be it doesn't say on the tube but the water hardness is on the highest they could be would I need to soften this some how hope you can help

its hard to tell really from the strips they can be very inaccurate normally a pH of 6.5 would indicate soft water
i notice theres no reading for ammonia which i think could be the problem

i wouldnt try softening the water i dont think thats the problem i would try the large 70% daily water changes
do you use declorinator when doing water changes if your worried about temp drops do it 25% at a time the fish dont mind small drops of 1-3 degrees but it will be a lot harder than doing 1 change and warming the water using the hot tap it doesnt need to be the exact temp just test it with your fingers untill you think its close
if you can try to get liquid test kits there more accurate i think the brand salifert is the most accurate
