HI All,
I started my aquarium just over 4 weeks ago.
I planned on doing a fishless cycle but surprisingly it did not work out the way i wanted.
I had the tank setup a few days when i had to go away for the weekend.
While i was away my wife and 2 1/2 year old daughter decided to fully stock my tank as a surprise.
Oh and a what a surprise it was.
This is my own fault for not educating them on the fishless cycle.
When i came back i found the following in my 190L tank.
12 live bearers mix of gupies not to sure exactly which ones.
4 silver dollars.
2 blue dwarf gourami
2 blue rams
2 African dwarf frogs
2 Angels
1 Dalmatiom Molly
2 Black mollies.
When i came home i had to look happy but i was extremely shocked.
For the past 4 weeks i have been doing 3 to 4 water changes a day. 30 to 70 percent.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and i would like to say one last thing.
To anyone that has to do a fish in cycle and have ended up at this site your are in the right place.
Take your time and read all the posts and the pinned topics there is alot of knowledge here and i would not of made it thruogh without it.
Tanks to everyone here for all the help that you have provided.
I have not lost any fish and all the fish seem very happy and healthy.
My tank is now cycled and are showing the following stats.
Ammonia o
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
This has been the hardest job that i have ever done and would not reccomend taking this route of cycling a tank to anyone.
During the 4 weeks i never alowed my ammonia to go over .25 and the nitrite hit .25 only once.
I am using a fluval 405 filter and i am also running 2 6' inch air stones in the tank that are powered by a Tetratec APS 400.
Could you let me know if this tank is over stocked.
Also i plan on moving to a larger tank in about 12 months which i am considering around the 500l mark so if these fish are to big they will be moved 12 months down the line.
I also believe that some of these species might not be compatible but i keep a very close eye on them and they seem to be getting along very well.
Could you also let me know if the filter i am running is up to the job or if i have to add another one.
Water is crystal clear and i am running white sponge prefilter on the side. Ceramic Pre flter media in the bottom basket, Filter floss above that and the two top rows have ceramic bio rings.
Please come back to me with any feedback that you might have and please take it easy on me as this was not my fault i just played the cards that i was dealt.
ialso could not retunt the fish as it would of upset my daughter. As my cycle has finished i also plan on doing a 30 - 40 percent water change every 2 to 3 days.
I am so used to it now that it should not be a problem.
