Melanotaenia sexlineata - Fly River Rainbowfish?

Melanotaenia splendida - Eastern Rainbowfish?

Melanotaenia maccullochi - MacCulloch's Rainbowfish?

They are my guesses. All species that I have wanted to keep but never been able to :( It's not a Melanotaenia praecox as I've kept them. But it could be any of the ones above from what I remember?

One answer per Post. Which is your answer?

A small rainbowfish, with laterally compressed body. Several geographically isolated populations are found in New Guinea, Northern Territory, northern Queensland. So far, genetic data separate Melanotaenia maccullochi into three groups, Burtons Creek, Etty Bay and Cape York populations.

I didn't realize there were more than one dwarf species. What kind of &&&& would have thought of the neon variety.

Dreamer, I hope you research all this and it doesn't come directly from your immense brain, if so, your talents would be put to better use in a high-stake quiz show about fishy things!

So, using my knowledge in cheating i guess. I had a strong hunch it was a rainbowfish, then i clicked the pic and realized its called exquisita. Sounds latin, so googled Exquisita rainbowfish and i got

Exquisite rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Exquisita)...is it that?

I take back my post, i think it resembles the dwarf rainbowfish the most actually, just the blue backdrop is making me doubt myself a bit; can't see really the red fins. The pattern pretty much says it all though.

Not too sure...if this is a compliment or some sort of jab. :p You should try doing some research on my answers.

Since it's been 12 hours, someone else can throw a pic into the ring.

Isn't it if the winner doesn't post a pic within 6-12 hours? Right now we're just stuck on it? =o Or rather she hasn't said if any of them are right ><' I do have a pic though..

I think DreamerTK got it initially, but since he gave us an ok on someone else posting; show us that pic Ninjouzata!!

It won't take long at all.

Both names pleasee. Im not sure if this type of pic is allowed cause there are so many fishies but I hope it's obvious. If not tell me I will edit it in paint and circle it!

It looks like one. I think some of them just look like that.
This is not my pic. Hope that's okay <_< All the pics I found for this were not full body pics or good quality so I got this one..

I got it!!
The fire eel! I should've known this one earlier. Caught one of these in a river somewhere. The Mastacembelus erythrotaenia (Had to google the latin name lol)
