Fish Id

The Marbled Headstander, http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Abramites&species=hypselonotus&id=165 ? Aquajardin have a single specimen of these too, but having just looked at pics on the net, their pattern must become bolder after settling in!

They are supposed to be a lot more predictable than the Striped Headstander, Anostomus anostomus, which hava reputation of pecking scales of tankmates (not to mention killing them off). Plus they are not social fish like Will's A. ternetzi.

A single Flagtail might be another possibility?

the one i saw today was a Leporinus affinis but after reading up on it i dont think it will be suitable as it eats plants and can be aggressive

For headstanders your best bets are Annostomus Ternetzi aka the lipstick headstander, marbled headstander or spotted headstanders but thats for a peaceful aquarium :)

And since your going for stuff like oscars I dont see a problem with a group of Leporinus, the majority of stories you see on the internet are of people keeping them in 55 gallon tanks alone. If you get a group of them they become so obsessed with each other that the other fish will never get bothered by them. And in a tank your size a group of 6-8 Lepeorinus Affinus or Leoprinus Vitatus if you can get them would be amazing IMO :D
