If it were me I'd want them braced floor to ceiling on the front as well.

As soon as I saw the photos, I thought there is no way those shelves will hold!

Brace the fronts of the shelves, like the others have said, or you will have a huge problem!

Looks nice, otherwise. Can't wait to see the finished photos. Will you have a seat in the center to watch your tanks?

Good luck,
Mark

The whole point in the shelving was so that i didn't have the uprights infront of the tanks so i would be getting a clear view and access point for water changes etc. Okay you are saying what i was expecting ....so what other option is there, apart fom having the supports at the front because once there in its going to be impossible to take tanks out and move things around and so on, all for it like but not the front! must be another way.

Going to get a lazy boy arm chair and chill when its done, Happy days. thought it was all good till the bloody shelvs. Hey you can't win them all eh!

Maybe look at front bracing between the tanks. Does mean you have decide what is going where but as long as the shelves are strong enough it should prevent them tipping.

Cheers, my cousins a specialist welder so he's coming up next weekend to put steel supports in place but there not going to be at the front of the shelving hopefully. when its done i will post a photo on to show.

Looking good....

are the horse shoe shapes all screwed together to make one complete shelf?

If so - there is no way that the fronts of the shelves would be able to tilt forward...
what sizes are we talking about for the tanks? it dosnt look like they will all be 2x1x1 or anything that big?

hes got an entrance way that interupts it, i would have probably said the same if it wasnt for the break in the circle. But, that said, it still looks pretty solid to me.

even with just 3 sides, it "shouldnt" be able to go anywhere.

I quite like the layout of the space...
The hidden corners that will be created when the tanks go in will give you places to hide wires etc...

should look good withthe tanks in.

Electrics for the sockets are hidden by the trunking which goes all round the top of the up rights to the circuit box.

Yes, here's a couple of photos to show you whats underneath, its all 3x2's for the shelving with the steel brace in between each wooden brace and then plated on top with 6mm ply. With every upright on the back wall screwed deep into the frame behind of the structure itself which is 3x2's also. Only the bottom shelf is screwed to the floor so no worries there.

Everyone jumped on the bandwagon about the shelves but if built with strong enough stuff it would hold. U could always fill some large bins with water and see how the weight does. If you watched as they filled u could see if the weight was getting to be too much.

cheers for that, ive done what you said and theres now way that its going to move, and when i had the joiner i know pop down for a look hed said there ain't no way iys budging. Now i have added 120mm screws to all the uprights and suports and im happy to get going now with the project.

One thing that did strike me as a potential hazard is the way the roof slopes all the way around, the 240 volt mains supply sockets might end up with water dropping down the inside of the roof and into the sockets. You might want to consider propper outside sockets instead of standard internal sockets.
