i just wanted to know what kinds of food other than flakes, pellets, bloodworms, and shrimps u guys feed ur fishies. any vegetables or anything? i wanna try something new to feed my fish that wont cost me any money lol. if i was my fish i would b sick of the same old food everyday.

Feeding fish the same food all the time isn't good for them at all. A variety of foods thwarts off some diseases, makes them healthier and they grow a lot faster.
I'm glad you asked for some ideas.

Depending on the species and their size, you can feed--

flake food, frozen foods, brine shrimp, Daphnia, earthworms, black worms, meal worms, blood worms, mosquito larvae, crickets, freeze dried foods, pellets, spiralina tablets, krill, peas, lettuce, cucumbers, zuchinni.

I've fed all of that to my fish I've had at one time or another.

In addition to all those yummy things, my fish also enjoy spinach, swiss chard, and carrot tops. I also make frozen food for them from beef heart (eww, I know). You just have to be certain that you only use the lean meat and trim away all the fat. I grind it up in the food processor with some spinach, shrimp or prawns (in the shell), some fresh fish if I have it (I live on Vancouver Island in a port town, so fresh fish is plentiful), and enough water to make a spreadable paste. Then spread it thinly in a large ziploc freezer bag or freeze it in ice cube trays. Some people add gelatin because they say it makes the water less cloudy, but I don't and have no problems. My fish love it.

Wow Aquanut, what a lunch, or dinner.

My fish have a varied diet....

Monday: Lettuce hangs on the side of the tank then on the floor of the tank at night.
Tuesday: Fish Flakes
Wednesday: Brine Shrimp, Algae Wafers (sometimes, mostly always, skip this one)
Thursday: Lettuce again
Friday: Fish Flakes again
Saturday: Brine Shrimp, and some Algae Wafers
Sunday: is there fasting day and water change day.

HTH

i just tried some lettuce in my tank and none of them seem to go for it. the only thing i saw munching on it was a snail. of coruse it wasnt iceberg lettuce so maybe thats it. maybe ut would b better if i told u what i had in my tank
1 powder blue gourami
1 gold danio
1 zebra danio
1 balloon molly
2 otocinclus cats
1 regular old platy
1 candy tetra
1 black fin hi skirt tetra
1 emerald green cory cat
i want to try a bunch of new foods for the guys. im aminly worried about putting some kid of vegetable in and having it leech some kind of chemicals or having it change the water specs? anyone know what i shoudl definitely not put in? i mean tomatoes and lemons obviously but what about other fruits? any one ever try fruits?

I wouldn't put anything acidic in your tank, obviously. As far as I know, any green, leafy vegetable is fine. I don't know of anybody feeding iceberg lettuce, so I don't think that was the problem. :) Romaine lettuce seems to be the most popular variety in the hobby, although I also feed my fish leaf lettuce from my garden. It is often recommended that you blanche the veggies for a few moments before putting them in the tank (pour boiling water over them). This softens them up and brings the flavour out. However, I never bother blanching, and my fish eat anyway. Sometimes you have to offer something new a number of times before your fish recognize that it is a new food. I would guess that your livebearers and your gourami would like some vegetable matter in their diet. Your otos, too. Clip the veggie to the side of the tank with a veggie clip, or wedge it under a rock or piece of wood if you don't have a clip. I find that my livebearers and other small fish really like fresh carrot greens to nibble on. Try different things until you find something they seem to like!

i have just bought a brine shrimp set up and i was looking at this post and i am interested about what someone said about carrot tops. i have access to hundreds of carrot tops as we have a very big garden will white clouds eat this? i also feed them mosquito larvae, they love it but is it safe? it's from two 44 gallon drums full of water for the garden but we are just getting into spring and i think i have cleaned them out already coz the weather isnt quite warm enough for mozzies but when we get into summer it will be free food which is good if its ok to use them for feed

The best way to find out if your fish like carrot tops is to give them some! Just make sure it doesn't have any chemicals on it (pesticides etc). Ditto on the mosquito larvae. It's awesome food as long as there are no chemicals in the water barrels.

How do you take all fat away from heart? Here is couple pics from fishs liver that isn't work ok because fish has eat fat (lower pics). Empty holes shows the place where fat was in liver cells.

There is alot of advice how to give them hearth (birds, cattle etc..) because fishes grow rapidly and looks great. However... Liver doesn't work ok and eventually fish probably will die.
