My 2 Angel Fish have been together for 8 months with no problems, now out of no where they have started fighting. They have always stuck together and never left each others sides. They look really bad and the other fish have advantage of them too. They both look as bad as each other, I dont know why they have started fighting and I dont know how to stop them. My 5 yr old son says I should take them out & tell them its wrong to fight.

I havent seen no lip locking & I watch them alot. They keep pecking at each other chasing each other away, pushing each other in to a corner . 1 of the angels is smaller but it seems to be the 1 that comes out better off. These Angels were our first fish so we dont want them to kill each other or be killed by the other fish for being weak.

well if its chasing the other one and the other hides all the time and it will get attacked if it shows its face maybe you should get rid of one keeping only one,,,if you want to try another maybe you should be inclined to change the aggresor,,,or give them a stern telling off :shout:

They hide for ten min then they come back out swim round together for a couple of hours then start again.

try this...remove the aggressor, clean out/water change tank,,totally rearrange everything and then leave it about 2hours hoping the weak angel has a chance to become boss ,,then rebag the angel<evil boy :S float bag again for about an hour as if your aclimatising the angel,,
i did same in my tank when my jag<pictured below went crazy trying to attack my oscars constantly,,and now they live side by side, as seen in the picture

Thank you so much for help and advise :fun:. I read a similar topic and it was same problem as mine, their results were that they may be fighting to dominate as they are getting bigger or it might be breeding behaviour as neither of mine seem to be worse than the other. I just hope they are testing their strenth. I will try what you have suggested on monday, ope it works.
Your fish look cool, they look huge. How big are they?

Loobyloo. I have the exact same problem with my 2 angelfish in a spacious 180 litre. They mated many times but now fight alot.

The only thing you can do is move your decor around in your tank,

that will disrupt territories that your fish have developed and distract them from one another as they scramble to mark their new territories.

Try that and let me know how they get on ;)

cheers,

adam

Hi, I moved my decor round and fingers crossed all seems well, their tails are healing up really nicely, they still remind each other who's allowed where in the tank tho so far so good. I distracted them with some lettuice whilst I did a move around. I have a mangrove root that is open at the top the legs are hollowed out and sits in the gravel, the clowns hid in the legs of the root and my male BN sat over the top of it so for 2 hrs we could not see him or the clowns I checked the bucket to see if they had hidden out in there. I put some food in and they surfaced soon enough, little monkeys.
