did a google on fish deseases and got directed back to our emergency section with a topic that had previously had pics of deseases but was edited big time by a mod, fair enough, as it stated that the information was incorrect but i thought it would be a good idea to have one set up properly with people posting pics that could be used in a pinned topic so some people can just look at the pic and almost be sure that what their fish has is what is in the pic, observations work better than written when diagnosing illnesses and some people would find it easier to use these pics. would this be possible? could we post and get some pics added to a topic like this?

if there is a thread of pics then please could someone direct me to it b/c i cant find it, it wouldnt be the first time i couldnt find a thread when i wanted it

cheers modaz :good:

I'm sure it would be difficult for a single person to put together a thread with photos of all diseases because of copyright issues. Most likely no one will have photos they have taken of all fish diseases (hopefully no one has been so unfortunately to have been plagued by every disease at some point in time).

It would be nice though if someone could put something together like that by finding photos and then contacting the owner and asking permission to use them. I guess you could also do a write up on each disease and then link to a good photo. That way you wouldn't be using it without permission or have to go through the effort of trying to track the person down to ask permission.

Great idea if someone can figure out how to pull it off.

well why not members just post them onto this thread and give permission at the same time, then if some kind person, cant be me as far to busy im afraid  could then see if they can set it up with the help from a mod, :good: :shifty:

The journal would be great. I guess the diseases could actually be done similar to fish profiles. Each disease has a thread with photos, symptoms and treatment. I haven't read all the other thread as I'm a very slow reader and it will take me 3 days to read 3 pages of posts but that's just my 2 cents worth.

IMHO a main topic (in the emergency section) would be best using a simple common symptom key (FL=flashing, SP=spots etc) to make it as simple to understand/use as possible.
Obviously in connection with info on particularly at risk species, non-common symptoms etc. But i think the key would make it stand apart.
It would have to be a huge thread though, then if members were encouraged to create disease journals in the emergency part of this forum those that are suitable and informative could be linked from the main thread.
This would give access to experience (journals) and the basic info and other suitable treatments, symptoms surrounding the illness via the main thread.
Pics shouldn't be a problem (although good ones might) there are a load of people posting in emergencies (i've got a few pics saved from posters if need be) and i reckon loads would be willing to help to help out with journals and/or pics.
I would see the main problem as getting posters to successfully I.D. the illness, particularly in the case of those that are fairly rare or have similar symptoms.....
Just been thinking about it myself recently and these are a few thoughts i had. Am i spouting nonsense? There'd also be no need for admin as far as i can see?
I'd be happy to try myself but think there are more suitable members to do it on TFF...
