Fish cruelty at its best... or maybe worst

Uhhhhh sorry Rocky, but I really don't know what you're trying to tell here.
Reason about what ? That living creatures shouldn't be cared for and be treated well ?
Also I completely don't understand your last sentence. Animals arrive sick so it is okay to not care for them or treat them cruel?
NO! Of course not! All animals sick and injure dshould be watched out for even more! I'm just saying, what you see in the store is probably how they were shipped and have gotten worse while being there... Its hard to run a huge store and to make sure every animal has spot on health...

Also, please don't come across so defensive... I care for animals a ton and for their well being... So for you to question that deeply offends me

How would you feel if it was puppies or kittens being sold in little plastic boxes? Would you still have the same attitude?
A lot more people would be way more angry! But I view all animals the same... So whether its a tarantula in a super small box to an elephant in a small room... I would be equally as frustrated... But lets all be honest here... I think we'd all be a bit more mad at the elephant in a small room rather than a tarantula... (I'm just stating the hard to hear facts) you may say you would be equally upset but if it actually happened I doubt id even hear about it

This is why I don’t support petco or petsmart. I will only buy there fish food and river rocks. I prefer to support lfs that aren’t chains and care about there fish. I have a few that are really nice for larger fish. If your in San Diego area, Aquarium Fish Depot, Petzone, and Aquatic Warehouse.
The first and last time I got fish from PetSmart my whole tank got ick and died.

The brain size and capacity of memory also comes into play. If you see a tiny jumping spider in a cup, yes it would be sad, but the brain is small and not as developed. Whereas elephants are super intellegent creatures. As you climb the rank in fish size, you will eventually get into larger memory, more stimulation, and more. If you put an intelligent creature in a space the size they are, they would get depressed and end up dieing, whereas the said jumping spider would just have a small home. That is the reason larger animals in small rooms hurts us harder than a smaller animal with a less developed brain in a small box. I’m not justifying animal abuse, by the way.

And we shouldn’t go on here to complain about fish cruelty, because it’s everywhere. At local fish stores, public aquariums, private fish keepers, school aquariums, and more. This is a place to acknowledge the joys of fishkeeping, not looking at the bitter version of fishkeeping. People are here to get help, and in return, educate others about the fish, inverts, plants, maintenance, supplies, and more. I see that you found these unhealthy fishkeeping methods, and dislike it, just like all of us. But in reality, it isn’t there fault. They know nothing about fish besides the little 3 page manual they gave them about fish. It’s the actual company itself, and the person in charge of transporting And keeping live animals.

Betta fish are one of the most misunderstood fish. I prefer to throw away the cheap fake decorations and try to keep fish just like they would be in nature. They shouldn’t be kept in .5 gallon tanks.

If you (re)read correctly I am asking the question cause I truely don't understand the things you're trying to tell us.

If one tells me these fish only are "selling stuff for a store" I think I am allowed to question what you mean. Not any reason to feel offended in my opinion.

I simply can't see it from your point of view.
There isn't ANY plausible reason to treat fish like these. I am not saying you're doing that and only say I disagree with your statements. Isn't that what we are allowed to do so ?

i beg to differ. this is a place to get help (as you said) AND (correct me if I'm wrong) to chill and talk about the fish-keeping hobby in general.

i feel like a lot of people seem to forget that fish ARE actually living creatures. People get sad when their dog or cat or any other mammal dies but their pet fish? "I guess get have to buy another one!"
People do not “get sad” when their cat or dog dies. They grieve. While they are both living creatures whose lives have value, losing a dog will always be different than losing a fish. I would not normally get irritated with a comment like this, but I lost my dog two nights ago and no matter how much I love my fish, it is not the same. You can love your fish and feel grief over the loss of a life, but losing a dog or a cat is a personal loss in a way losing a fish is not.

Why not "complain" here about animalcruelty in our hobby?
I think it is raising awareness and that is a good thing. We should try to take action when/if possible. Looking away from this, cause it is everywhere, isn't correct to me.

im sorry to hear about your dog. I guess that people just view things in a different manner. When I was much younger I legit used to cry when my fish died. Same thing when I had to give my dog away because my family was moving and couldn't take her.

Sorry to hear Olive !

Thank you, it was hard. I teared up over my first fish. There is just not the same bond with a fish as there is with an animal that you can hold or hug. Humans thrive on physical contact, and obviously fish just don’t offer that.

This is true, but you can’t stop a whole chain of petstores to stop keeping bettas in cups. You can raise awareness to poor lads who would keep them in a cup or something like that. But it change anything huge. It will still change things, yes, but not anything massive.

Also, humans do enjoy physical contact, but one of the reasons I started keeping fish was to relief anxiety, stress, and depression. I love
animals - I have so many - and they are all as equally as precious. You may form stronger bonds with more intelligent fish, but all fish are awesome, and I will always cherish and love them just as much as the next.
