Yesterday for instance, I drove 1 hour each way just to buy 2 dollars worth of brine shrimp to get my new clown loaches to eat! Now thats what I call LOVE! :)
   that IS love

i hate how people do that. i love how my cat stretches out and purrs everywhere, and how my dog greets me (though she could tone the hopping down). but i also love how my Bettas dance, and how everyone else flocks to the front of the tank, and how my Goldies try as hard as they can to force themselves out the side of the tank when i come in!

i get the same reaction when i tell people i have a Ferret; "you've got a WHAT?! don't they stink? don't they bite? aren't they vicious?" only as vicious as that Kitten your untrained, beaten, aggressive Rottweiler ate last week.

more pets should be recognized as pets!

yea it really is sad people say fish are not real pets they can't do any tricks which is wrong. Fish can do tricks. Plus you don't really have to train them to do stuff in certain places. Plus when other pets do their business boy does it smell. It should be the other way around. Fish r awesome!

i know what ur all on about... i treat mine just as i do my cats... if i buy somthin new for the tank i make a big song an dance about it in front of the tanks...

when i go to work one of the girls (who id just love to slap a couple of times around the mouth) over heard me an my aunt talkin about my tanks (my aunt reaaaaaaly loves my tanks) and ever since then makes a point of askin 'so how are ur 'tanks' doin? ' and u know shes just doin it to winde me up... so i let her... i talk an talk about them untill she p***** off somwhere else...

its got me known as the crazy fish lady tho

i got into a realy good conversation the other day with one of my work mates an she was amazed how much i knew and id only been in it a couple of months....

but i owe it all to u guys and i said so

in my experience fish - and i'm guessing other animals such as reptiles and amphibians - don't offer affection. cats and dogs do... this is quite a big distinction and i'm sure it's a big reason why some people don't regard fish as 'true' pets

while this lack of affection may be viewed as a negative thing, it can also be viewed as a positive. as people have pointed out, fish are less domesticated. their behaviour is less easy to manipulate through artificial selection. having a fish tank is like having a little piece of the natural world in your home

none of my friends get it when i babble on about my fishies. my boyfriend seems to understand that if he harms my fishies in any way when he's here, his butt is on the pavement out the door. i made this perfectly clear when he scared George.

otherwise, i'm utterly silent around my friends. from Vic i usually get, "I had a bunch of Cichlids once. In a 20g. There were like, 6 of them. They were HUGE. Then I got bored and starved them =)" which makes me want to salp her, because that sentence is horribly wrong. and from Angele it's, "Dude. Ok. Whatever."

so i just shut up around everyone, even my dad finds me eccentric; it's not my fault i care =(

Although I don't put my fish in the same category as my dog, I still very much care for them. h20 changes every fortnight, tank cleaning, food varieties, proper water conditions, environment and all that. However, what I want from my fish differs from what I want from my dog. My fish are simply enjoyable to watch and if I've recreated their habitats properly, I'll have my own little Discovery channel. However, from my dog, I want some good 'ole companionship and someone to run with who'll never complain about going outside in the wet. Haha, just had an image of myself running with a fishbowl in hand.

Although I have to admit that a Tiger Oscar my friend cares for has some real personality. He fed him quite a bit, and then we ate quite a bit of pizza. As we were slouching on the couch, we looked over to the Oscar and he was lying on his side in food coma just like us. Quite humorous.
