both supplied by bettaman
they have been in the breeding tank but separated for 36 hours now and Columbia has made a lovely bubble nest, i'm just waiting for Hope to start showing signs that shes horny , she wiggles like mad when he comes a courting but is not showing any submisive signs as of yet, I can't go by the vetical lines as she is so pale :S.
my tank set up
2ft tank filled to 5-6 inches
submersible heater
corner filter set at 1 bubble per second
styro cup + ricca
corner full of red and green cabomba
light
indian almond leaf.

i am so nervous. it's wonderful though, i sit watching them for ages , he swims to her flares and wiggles then swims back to the styro cup and starts building, then keeps repeating this, then she start wiggling to get his attention and so on

will keep you updated and try to get some pics

as of jarring, i have got all my family and friends collecting jars for me
was also thinking of using 2 litre pop bottles with the top 1/4 cut off but don't know if they will be stable enough

hiya
you have such a good pair there im in  as for knowing when she is ready it sounds good as u said she wiggles when he comes to her they way i tell is does her gill covers look red or pinkish? if they are she is ready.
but when you let her out u know there will be chasing and she may well get nips outta her fins. spawning might not happen untill tomorrow or the nexted day if you let her out now.

on the other hand they could spawn right away depends on the bettas.

but let her out and see how things go

WoW her fins look almost blue in that pic together - is that just the flash perhaps ?

All the best and look forward to reading this thread :)

I think this is my first post in the Betta section -_-

Good luck with the spawning
and keep us updated with lots of pics. :p

Good luck with your first spawn!

I have mostly light females and as you say, they don't show the vertical bars. I just put a pair together on Saturday night, her in a breeding trap and him in the main tank. After 6 hours I released her at about 9pm and all seemed well with them. Woke up next morning and she'd kicked his fishy butt overnight, half his tail gone, but low and behold they spawned at 1pm that day. Nest full of eggs and daddy taking very good care of them.

Sometimes I think its better not to see the spawning process as it can be rather violent and you could be tempted to pull them. I just make sure they are flirting with eachother initially upon release and as long as they have hiding spots they should be fine.

Look forward to seeing the next stage :)

Hehe good luck with your spawn...you have a beautiful pair...I will be following closely for mine will be ready to spawn too! hehe it will be exciting! :)

Oohhh they are SO beautiful!!!! You are going to have some gorgeous lil' bee-bees!

   Good luck, and joby nice to know you listining.....  better not to watch sometimes as i have said it depends if you want undamaged fins or babies, i just had a spawn and not one of the fins were even nipped, others look as if they have been through a hedge backwards...........

i released the female last night and i see what they mean by rough courtship

they haven't done any knocking fins yet but they swim around together looking at the nest and then playing hide and seek in the plants. ahh young love

she is not too battered as of yet just 2 little bits of tail missing, she is very quick and found a great hiding place under the filter, while he is wondering around the plants looking for her

Oh my gosh, I am so excited! I'm setting up the breeding tank for my two tonight! :D

Those are some goodlooking fish ya got there! I bet they're going to make amazing babes!!

Good Luck with the whole bit!!
