Regal Tangs are my bug bear TMC import loads of them last time I was there they must have had 40 in 1 tank :( a lot of people see them from Nemo and want them in a small tang these are a stunning fish but need lots of room.

I rarely recomend any Tang outside the bristoltooth family although yellows are not to bad.

hello, sorry for missing this post. She seems really happy at the moment, but I'd hate for her not to have enough space, I'll sort her a new home with my mate if thts wat u think best!

I've done the cod pods and the mandarin is happy too! Enjoys the feeding time!!

Would a yellow tang fit in my tank? Or would tht be to big too??

I'm afraid I don't or should I say I'm glad I dont have any experience with this pest.

However I do know what they are: Paravortex which are a type of flat worm, horrid things that bury into the fish and erupt through the skin, fall off and the cycle starts all over again.

If you are sure you have this and I don't remember anyone on here having it then you will need to freshwater dip the fish - put them in a bare bottom quarantine tank and leave your reef fallow for probably about three months

Hi Lewiss,

No matter how big a tank you get you will always want bigger :)

Reading through your journal there are a few things to mention.

1) Earlier on you asked about a powerhead. Do you not have any powerheads in your tank? You need at least X10 the tank volume in water flow for the liverock to work as filtration (ideally I would say at least X15).

So really you need a couple of 1000lph power heads.

2) Leaving a piece of shrimp in the tank may help with pod population but it will also foul the water as it rots down.

3) Mandarins, please read the link below:
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/306503-fish-of-the-week-dragonets/

I have made my thoughts on these pretty clear in that topic. Dragonets feeding on frozen only will not survive long term unless they have a dedicated tank (with only them in it) and are fed often (at least 4 times a day). Culturing pods will work but you have to be 100% dedicated to doing this and have multiple cultures set up and running because they will crash at one point leaving you with no food.

Dragonets only eat small amounts at a time but will hunt for food constantly all day. They do not adapt well to normal feeding routines that we have in our tanks (i.e. we put a lot of food in 3 times a day then nothing at all in between). On top of this mandarins are not aggressive feeders and piratically all other fish will out compete them for food.

Basically what I'm saying is that unless you have multiple pod cultures set up and are willing to keep them going for the next 5-10 years I would get rid of the mandarin now.

3) Tangs. you tank is too small I'm afraid. you might get away with a kole tang but it would be pushing it.

Thanks Seffie,

Have you heard of clowns having anything similar to this? I'm not sure if it's black itch but I can't find another desease/problem like it, and the spots are getting bigger, and one the clowns hovers at the top now ribbing on the the filter. Very sad..

My tang has lost the spot on her nose a day after me noticing it, so it was prob just dirt she's picked up from somewhere, I'm going to catch her nd give her to my friend today.

Also I have a polyp coral and somethings eating it I think?! It's goin White and disappearing rapidly. Water levels are good. It's a pink polyp. Think it might be either my buscuit star fish - seems to always be near or my cleaner shrimp which is always on it and seems to be picking at it?! But they're reef safe are they not??

Mandarin has been sorted with the pods - I'm running several cultures at the moment and the tank is still flurishing with them, I don't think the mandarin knows what's hit him!!!

I cant think of anything which is similar to black ich, except maybe a similar parasite  are the spots near the gills?

yes but it's equally all over their bodies. But it's just the clowns!

I thought black ich stayed mostly around the gills with the occasional one on the body

Really the only thing to do is dip them and see if anthing falls off  have you got a photo?

I've tried to photograph it but it doesn't show up. I'll dip them answer how it goes

thanks Seffie. X
