So I went into a local lfs today, they're not the greatest but they do have some awsome sales and I needed to pick up a new water bottle holder for my hamster. Well they were having a sale on 1 gallon critter keepers ($5 each) so I naturally picked up a few for any new bettas I may aquire. Well then I went over to check out the bettas and OMG they were all in horrible condition. Filthy, tiny cups, about 2 inches of water, they literally could not move. So I raised hell!! lol, I flew off the handle at the guy working, I think he was afraid I was going to hit him, lol. I demanded that he give every betta (there were about 20 something) clean water and a full cup while I watched him. He kind of looked at me funny, like a was a crazy person, but he did what I asked, lol. Well once the bettas were in water where I could actually see them, I noticed that besides being stressed most of them appeared healthy. Then I saw a little pink boy who looked extremely underweight, and was swimming vertically, head up. So naturally I decided he would make a nice first addition to the brand new tanks I had just aquired. Well I was about to leave the store when I looked over at the "supply table" where they bag the fish and I saw a betta cup kind of hidden in the back so out of curiousity I pulled it forward and saw a betta, laying on his side in no more than an inch of dirty brown water. He was panting super hard and didn't even seem to have the strength to get air which was only half an inch above his head. I went to the guy working and demanded to know why he was over there and he replied "oh we must have forgotten about him" :angry1: :BM: :censor: Ugh so before I could begin yelling again the guy looks at the poor betta and says "He doesn't look so good , why don't you just take him, hes gonna die soon anyway" I held my tounge and paid for my stuff and took my 2 new boys and left the store before I really did hit the guy working, ugh. Anyway I got the boys home and put them in their new tanks, and they immediatly perked up, the pink boys still swimming funny, and I discovered the other boy had a weird lump on his head (which I'll post about in the health section on here) But I think they'll be just fine.

I hate the way LFs treat bettas
Glad you saved emm though

the pink guy looks like my schnapps lol

omg that is horrible, my lfs has them in cups to and i dont agree, stil at least they r better of wiv u x

sad. i seriously would have hit the guy  no living thing should be kept like that! id mayb put the lil guy with the bump on some kind of med that treats parasites. thank you so much for saving them! i wish everyone would do the same and put there bettas in a decent sized tank! at my lps you can get these betta tanks that are only 1/6 inch wider then the cup and about the same height with a spikey plastic plant in the middle!! horrible!! and the worst thing is that everyone buys them becuase there cheap and dont understand how to keep them. perosnally i think people should be rising up agianst cups and any fish bowls or tanks that are less then 1 gallon. we should start a pitition.

EDIT: spelling.

What handsome little guys. Good job for putting up a fuss at the store, and for taking the boys in. :)

So glad you rescued the Bettas and raised hell :D

I don't own bettas, but it drives me insane when I see them in small cups, I promise I will point it out every time I go to my lfs's, maybe if we all did that they could find a better alternative.

Anyways, lovely bettas :good:

Well Done For Rescuing The Betttas ! :D Shame About The Other Fish In The Store Though. Love The Second Fish !

I had a similar experience a few months ago, I went into a major shopping center that will remain nameless and saw a bunch of bettas in little tiny cups with very little water. So naturally I baught as many as I could keep (2) and "rescued" them. Unfortunatly they were sick so they died of some type of fungus about a week later

when i went back to said store (to return the bodies and get a refund to get more fish) I discovered that they were all gone, wether they were purchased by other people or if they all died I do not know.

But now I get my fish from an actual pet store where thay actually know what they are doing.

Great saves, they are gorgeous

Well done for sticking up for them, lets hope he has learnt something today :D

Ok a quick update on the little guys!! Gizmos doing amazingly well. Some clean water, salt and a pea has gotten him swimming happily and normally around his tank. He wiggles his butt at me and blows me bubbles, though I think I'll fast him tomorrow, then another pea on saturday, then I'll start him on regular food. Tobys not doing as well, he appears to have some type of infection on his face. He has a big lump on his head, and his eyes seem a little too big for his head. But ren (randomwiktor) has given me some great advice and I'll start him treatment tomorrow! :D :D Here are some pics of them today!
