It confuses me, I see people in here say corys are quite hardy and the labels on the shop tanks say they're hardy fish. But then I see people don't advise them as first fish in a new tank.
It seems my cycle is coming to an end and my first fish was goin to be 4 peppered corys and a plec, was thinking a clown. Are these gonna be ok? I'm still between minds for what other fish I want, the wife wants neons but I see the tank has to be a few months matured for them.
Anyway, peppered corys and a plec first. Good or bad?

i wud say no as a first fish.

and if u mean clown loach , i wouldnt ad them either as they need big tank and like t be in groups.

ive added plecs and cory's 2 a completely newly cycled tank on many occasions and not once has 1 of them suffered with ilness or have died so even tho alot will sat not for a new tank i just think IMO and only my opinion they will be fine there are obviously various plecs and cory's i wouldnt recommend ie panda corys and more sensitive plecs just becasue they have a tendancy of been a little fragile when small again IMO but its entirely upto u which cory or plec u have just be aware there is always that chance of somethink going wrong

Yes I'm sure there's a clown plec! I've written a list of plecs under 8' from the sticky in the plec section to take to the shop so I know which I can choose from.

I like the panda corys but read they arnt the hardyist so will wait for them but read peppered and albino are hardy, but my sand is quite light/white so want some corys with a little colour!

Hi mic8310 :)

Corys will love your sand and should do fine as long as your tank is completely cycled. As mentioned, I'd steer clear of C. pandas for awhile.

While they get along fine with the smaller plecos, take care that the bottom stays clean. Plecos can make a lot of mess and the corys shouldn't have to be sitting in it.

There are many kinds of corys available but some are more readily found than others. Perhaps the most important thing to consider when making a choice is the temperature of the water. If your other fish will require it to be on the warm side, there are certain corys that will do better than others. This will usually depend on the other fish they will be sharing the tank with. :D
