First Fish And Wot Lights?

Hi all.

I've just set up my new tank, and started doing a fishless cycle. It's a second hand aquastyle 850 holding 125L of water and ust thinking ahead I wondered if anyone could recommend my first fish. My youngest wants a Siamese fighter, so I'm definately looking for a species that doesn't nip fins.

Another question is that the hood has 3 tubes in, 2 are 30" and the other is 23.5". All are looking a bit worse for wear, so I'd like to replace them 1 at a time, but which tubes should I be using?

I should add that I don't mean I'm going to start with a siamese fighter, but will be getting 1 later on when it's all established.
