First Attempt Betta Tank Setup, Comments Welcome!

I've never heard about sand not being good for bettas, would anyone be able to elaborate?

Tank looked nice at first, looks really impressive now. What about some more pics from other angles (eg straight on)? I don't think I've seen a chi made to look so nice for that sort of look with driftwood and plenty of green :good:

I searched on google the best substrate for betta and found this and plenty more:

Warning about sand in Betta tanks:
Fine sand used as a substrate in betta tanks can and has been confused by hungry Bettas who can be very piggy in nature as food that has fallen to the floor of the tank and they will eat it. I have had a betta eat sand and die from it. So it would be my recommendation that Fine Sand NOT be used in betta tanks as a substrate.

I dont believe everything i read but there was quiet a few people with the same problem, so i just played it safe.

Thanks pablo, i'll try some more pics tomorrow, i did take some from the front last time, but the reflection was pretty bad. Many have to invest in a better camera, Especially when a have a beatiful betta to take pictures of.

I have never had any problems keeping Bettas over sand and they are found over sand in the wild… also, they're not really stupid enough to confuse food and sand! Anyway, you can try selling all those bits off on here, you might be able to make back at least some of the money that you spent on them :good:

I bought the sand online, only to recieve something called " natures oceanlive sand "
I still dont know what it is, cost £15!

Turn all of your lights off so the room is dark apart from the tank light and switch off the flash on your camera

"Live sand" is something for marine tanks, so you probably want to list it in the marine section and point out that it's been used in freshwater (which makes is just sand, not live sand). Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_sand

For next time, you can get sand from your local DIY shop for £1-5 per large bag. Most people use only play sand, but I have started using other types of sand and prefer them.

hey danele been following this post looks awsome now with the wood

as for the oceansand i had some its crushed coral sand used for marine that would raise the ph of your tank.

Glad im not the only one :)

Looks amazing. Update on my sisters tank. It's now cycled after a few days with a bit of my sponge. All tests are cool, same as I did my two small betta tanks. Cycled in a week with old media.

Going to pick test kits up tomorrow and monitor for a few days. Didnt have time to get them today
