What is the minimum sized tank to keep just a pair of fire-mouths ? I have grown quite fond of some that are at my lfs. And i have some empty tanks lying around.
Thanks, Mark

On liveaquaria.com it says 30 gallons and they're usually a pretty trusty site to use.

I keep mine in 120 Litres, but it is on the small side, but have no problems.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Guess its time to setup my 30 gallon :hyper:

Technically a 20 gallon long is fine for a breeding pair and nothing else.

live aquaria is just another business, though. They have some things accurate, but a lot of it is total bullcrap. I'd refrain from using them as a source of information, and just as a place to order fish.

Oh I just use them as one place I get my research. My rule of thumb is to get 4-5 sources and see what seems most accurate.

One more question, i know that it is very difficult to sex them but the ones at my local fish store are about 3 inches. So am just wondering what is the best way to try to sex these guys ?
Thanks, Mark

Guess  I've researched left and right on how to sex them, and came to the conclusion "you can't until they pair"

Lol I guess i will have to go with gut feeling

I had two in a 30 and they would have done just fine, but these two accepted no other fish at all didn't matter the species. They are cool fish but a bit skitzy for me.

Good luck.

Got my pair today and managed to get a pic of the suspected male.
