i'm warning you guys right now that this newt is unique so i don't know if any one will be able to help.the last time he shed he had a very hard time of it and it took him 4-5 days to do it,he was dragging his body against things trying to get it off and in the process he tore a peice of skin off his back.is there any medication i can buy to protect him from disease?he's over 12 years old and my wife would be devastated if he died.

sorry dnn3, i missed this. i know you keep your newt in a community tank so it may be better to treat in a hospital tank. the main thing here, i believe, is to avoid possible infection. so a salt treatment may be in order, though i tend to use Teatree oil!

one thing for helping with the moult. iodine!!! adding some iodine to the tank at moult time may well help the little guy.
