one of my bettas has come down with fin rot. im going to get Betta Fix tomorrow and do what the directions said. is there anything else i should do now or do after i use the betta fix? im going to do another water change tonight, should i do a complet water change, or a certain %? and is there anything else i can do?

thanks

salt might help... i wouldnt do too much of a water change as it could add stress and the fin rot could get worse... raisin the temp .. im not sure if that helps tail rot but u might wanna do it anyways

Change 100% of the water BEFORE starting treatment and scrub the tank out (IF it's a small tank,a large aquarium obviously you won't be able to). You always want to have clean water and bowl when starting treatment. You can add salt if you have some,it will help. Also, don't raise the temp. Fungus grows and spreads faster the warmer the water is. Raising the temp works for ick,not a fungus. Follow the directions for water changes on the betta fix,as I'm not familiar with it. I've only used Melafix.

Hi billy61788 :)

HeatherSweetness is absolutely right with the advice she has given you.

For more information about this problem, please read what I have just posted on this thread:

http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?sh...showtopic=29226

People do have success using BettaFix, and if you have caught the problem in time, it will probably do the job for you, too. If you don't see improvement in a few days, however, switch to one of the other meds that I suggested since your fish may have a secondary infection too.

Good luck and please let me know how it turns out. :D

so far i did complete water. petsmart didnt have melafix so im going to try the bettafix and hope it works that it works. they were also out of salt, they said they havent gotten in their shipments of goods yet. so ill keep my eye open for that too

thanks for all the help

really? so if salt i have in my house doesnt have jod in it then i can use it? how much should be added for 1 gallon?

does jod stand for somthing? im looking at the salt i found in ym kitchen and dont know if its an abbreviation...

Hi billy61788 :)

Cocker might mean iodine or chemicals that are sometimes used to prevent the salt from caking up.

It's OK top use plain, uniodized table salt to medicate your fish---but never use it on catfish, plecos or loaches.

yea the salt i have is iodized so ill just skip that step until my lfs gets in some salt...

thanks

ok i got some salt from my lfs today...i added some of that and so far ive done 2 doses of the bettafix which i have to do for 7 days. since yesterday after cleaning his tank and doing the first treatment he seems to be showing some signs of improvment. he is swimming alittle more and is eating more, plus he has rebuilt a small bubble nest so im hoping all goes well
