Fin Rot

Hi there, I've diagnosed my fish as having fin rot and added the antibiotics from my lfs, but what i'd really like to know is how long does it take before it takes effect. I really want to do a water change but i'm worried about diluting the medication

most antibiotics take about a week or so to take effect just like with humans. make sure you read the directions carefully on the medication and follow them to the letter for best treatment, dont skim over them

It's ok to do a water change as long as you add the correct amount of med back to the water removed, good luck, don't forget to add extra aeration with adding a med to the tank as the med takes 02 out of the water.

Will it affect the bacteria in my filter media? And what about the plants, will they be ok?

If it's interpet internal bacteria no it shouldn't harm the filter.
