I think my tetras in my 60L tank have fin rot. I noticed the other week that the tips of their fins were a cloudy white colour. All of them have this cloudy white colour on their fins only that wasn't there before. One of the tetras also has clamped fins. I also have guppies in there and their fins are looking ragged.

I've been treating with the required dose of Myxazin for 5 days now (today is day 5) and I see no improvement. All their fins are still cloud white and in fact one looks worse today.

Should it be cleared up by now or does it take a while after treatment to see improvement? Should I continue with the Myxazin a bit longer and is it safe to do so?

Thanks for any advice. I'm really getting annoyed lately as to of my tanks have problemms that won't go away and it's all since I bought fish from Pets at Home. My tanks have been up and running years now with no major issues like this.

Sorry I haven't got water stats as my kit  is well out of date now and since the tanks have been running for years I haven't been testing like I did at first. I know I need to get another kit really and will do,

Any help with this fin rot would be much appreciated.

Sounds like its most likely something else causing the problems but I'd treat as long as you need to, Sometimes increasing doses  slightly helps but I would suggest only treating the fish infected in a QT.

Thanks, I don't have a QT. Do you think maybe it's poor water quality? The tanks has been running many years and it's cleaned once a week on the dot.

How long can I continue with the myxazin for?

For as long as the infection is still there, Most of them will say that on the bottle.

Have you checked what the water stats are?

No because my kit is well out of date now and I haven't bought another because it's been running so long with no issues. Gonna get another kit though. Do you think a daily water change alongside treating with the Myxazin would help?

Still looks the same, fins a bit cloudy white looking on the tips. Been doing a gravel vac daily now for the past 2 days and adding Myxazin for 7 days.

Are you sure it is fin rot, and not nipped fins?  Fins that are nipped with have a white edge.  Guppies are known to do this, as can many tetra species.

I personally would not continue dosing Myxazin, particularly as it is not doing anything.  I do not know this product, but from what I can find online it contains malachite green, formaldehyde and acriflavin.  All three of these are not that good for characins, which is what tetra are, and you might be doing more harm than good.  These chemicals will add stress to any fish, especially these, and that is only going to make the issue (whatever it is) worse.

Byron.

Just came across your other thread on this topic, and agree that what you see is the natural tip of the fins.

Please do a major water change to rid the tank of as much of this Myxazin as possible, or these fish may soon have real problems.  Good luck.

Byron.
