I have a beat up tiger barb with like thin fins and missing parts of fins. I'm curious if he is not messed with will his fins repair and be beautiful again?

I think my huge pink gourami munches some smaller fishes tails sometimes and it makes me think that they are so fragile.

I hate seeing beautiful fish become ugly because they get beat up. I have a very pretty albino rainbow shark that has the orangest fins and he recently got a little chunk takin' out. Will this be repaired?

I remember reading on some chemical i used to have that it helps fish heal. But i forgot really what it did.

I also remember that on my pink gourami when he was small one of his tentacles or whatever got bitten really short but it grew back to full size.

Anyway thats my question. and my experience.

Before I answer your question, can I ask you why you keep incompatable fish in the same tank. You state that you don't like seeing beautiful fish getting beat up, yet it seems like your gourami is systematically beating the rest of the tank mates. What size tank do you have and what's in it?
Now to answer your question - melafix is a great healer of torn and missing fins and it can be bought in any good lfs.

Interpets tonic worked for me , when the male got a split in its tail after a heavy mating bout..anyway melafix , must try that next time.

Was that supposed to be a smartass comment?

They are compatable. I've had the fish for a long time, he just grew very large and i think sometimes he bites one of their tales like whenever they piss him off or something. If they were incompatable don't you think that one of them would be dead?!

You might want to be a little nicer when posting in the "BEGINNER" section.

I'd also like to say...i dont think anyone who owns fish (knowledge level set aside) who wants to see them destroyed.

I go to school with a lot of people i don't like and there's really nothing i can do about it  ..maybe i punch them in the face..but they don't die from it and life goes on.

You do know chill-in , gadazobe was only trying to help you. Obviously you don't like anyone querying your judgement , as you say you go around assaulting ppl. There is no need for that behaviour here. So calm down... :)

I agree, you posted in the beginner section, so its understandable that people might think you have incompatible fish. I know some fish stores know very little about it and would sell you any combination, just for profit.

And the Experts on here, (believe me they know alot through experience etc) are only here to help, and thats why they make enquiries, just to make sure they have all the facts first.

Please bear in mind they dont have to help, but alot of established fish keepers do, for the benefit of us beginners,

Personally, if i had a fish that kept attacking everything, i would take it back to the shop, it must be awful for the other fish being nibbled and bullied, unfortunately it sounds like you wouldnt understand this as it seems to be your way of life too.

Please dont scare people away who are just trying to help you, and its good to see people like yourself who actually want to repair and heal your fish, i just hope it's for the fish's benefit and not just the way they look

Not necessarily. One of them might just be wounded, ... like maybe have torn fins.

So in that case, one of you walks around with a bruised face. Would you call the two of you 'compatible'?

Most fins will heal over time, unless they're completely gone. Melafix usually helps speed up the healing process.

But, that's treating the symptom.

Separating the fish is treating the cause.
