Filtration Question For Large Aquarium Owners

I have 3 Eheim 2076e's running on my 8x2x2 and will probably add a 4th next year, they are rated for tanks of 400l, so I have filtration for 1200 litres so far, but of course, that depends upon the type of fish you wish to keep

I would always suggest 2 filters at least, over 1, so if one breaks down, you at least have a chance of getting another one, and have the other one running in the mean time

According to the specifications of this filter, you have about 5000L/H flow in your tank so far which is not that bad.
The OP won't have even two times the tank volume an hour turn over. Which in my opinion will cause a ton of problems. The first one being the cycle will take ages to finish first. Then dead areas in the tank for lack of flow, temperature fluctuations inside the tank, algae outbreaks, filthy substrate, etc...

Yep, I have 2 Eheim 400 Air pumps circulating water in there, with 4 airstones and a Hydor Coraline 2 wavemaker at the bottom too, so plenty of movement :)

Apon review, it would appear a powerhead or wavemaker would be beneficial. Im looking at a twin head 12000lph wave maker atm, can't believe how cheap they are. This should help with surface movement and general circulation.

Also in terms of my filtration, it would appear a few of you under-rate the eheim 2250/60. Yesterday i read a detailed journal of someone running a 6 foot (6x2x2) on a 2250 alone, and although they had an airstone wall, they had no problems at all with water stats or fish health. I will be running my eheim 2028 (1050 lph) as a complimentary/additional/backup filter as well.

I have attached a very quick paint.doc picture of my setup in simple terms. You can see the 3-d background, on the left is my smaller eheim 2028 intake/outtake, and on the right in my larger eheim 2250 intake/outtake, along with a 500W heater. Depending how the 500W keeps the water temp, i also have a 200W heater which can live next to the smaller 2028 if need-be.

My question, where would you place a wavemaker/power-head? One in question is a twin head 12000 lph. A reminder for those who have just visited the topic, the aquarium is a 7x2x2 footer. Thanks for your help and opinions.

Just to note that between the 2250 and 2260 version the difference is great so not sure what you mean by putting two different rated filters under the same name(2250/60)? The 2250 is rated 1000L/H. The 2260 is rated 2400L/H.

I would either put the intake of one filter next to the outlet of the other filter (which will give a more disrupted flow pattern as well as preventing re-circulation) or move both outlets to the corner with the heater and both intakes in the back left (which will give a more uniform flow pattern).

The powerhead could then be put in either of the front corners to assist or breakup the flow pattern.

Putting a wave maker that size in a tank that you want to keep big flat fish in like Angels? Really? I look forward to the video :D My Hydor 4000 lph in a 5 foot tank pushes the water around plenty. I would imagine a single 5800 would be perfect....its not a marine tank after all.

Right people, i have cancelled the transaction on the 2250...

I was just going to go out and buy a fx5 and be done with it.
However i have a problem, my cabinet measurements are 21" high, 20" wide and 24" deep... (i have four these)

I am having a problem with the height of the cuboards... most filters are taller than 21"...
The fx5 is 55cm high i hear (21.65inches)...

Any suggestions anymore??

Did someone mention endlers and 7 footer in the same sentence ?

Oh and if you are going for an all pond solutions filter they have a 15% off code that runs till the 31st

I see nothing wrong with this. I am also not a fan of big fish and see no reason why 1 foot long fish would be happier in a 7f tank than a good bunch of little fish. A buzzing happy cloud of different small fish schooling together looks way better to me. Considering the life cycle of most small fish as well, there's always time to upgrade to a few monsters if you change your mind.

Words of advice... can anyone measure their fx5 to confirm its height? Or can anyone suggest a suitable filter for my setup? Thanks.

I see it in most places advertised as 17 inch tall. The irish zooplus has it at 44.5 cm which is approximately 17 inches.

I have a feeling the 55cm height is including the fixed intake outtake nodes ontop (sorry for inproper language there).

At the moment im contemplating two eheim 2075's to work with my 2028, giving a total output of 3550 l/p/h. That is pending i can get hold of two second hand...

Or has anyone had any experience of these:

I understand that they will be cheapily made, lower output than stated etc, just wondering if anyone has used one? Opinions on a couple of them?

I've not got that external filter, but I have dealt with that same seller to by the same brand 2200lph poweheads twice with positive experiences, that can offer some basic mechanical filtration. In addition, i've discovered these powerhead/filters (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BF-2200-INTERNAL-AQUARIUM-POWER-FILTER-2200lph-FISH-TANK-POWERHEAD-PUMP-MEDIA-/170809508443?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item27c50a425b) are a perfect fit for 22mm plumping pipe, opening up the possibility of an affordable unidirectional flow setup via the under gravel jet concept.
