I have an Aqua One AR980 (capacity : 71 USg)

The tank has its own filtering system which turns over 1000 l/hr.

A few months back the power head packed up and in my desperation i went out and purchased an Fluval 4 Plus internal filter (this also turns 1000 l/hr), as i couldnt find any genuine aqua spare power heads. The fluval filters actually been quite good.

Im about to 're-do' my tank, attempting to turn it into a plush green planted aquarium.

Ive just found a supplier of genuine power heads, which means ill be able to re-instate the tanks own filtering system.

My question is this : if im to create a heavily planted tank, would it be worth while leaving the Fluval filter in, to run alongside the in-built filter, as this in total would be able to turn over nearly 2000 l/hr or is this overkill ???

Rounded up, your 71gal tank is just shy of 270 litres. Now, from my understanding your filtration needs to filter your tank water at least 3 or 4 times an hour so using only one of those filters is sufficient. But, this being said, you can never over filter. Its just whether you mind having both filters taking up space, and whether you can get a good water current thats not too strong etc :)
