Hi all, I have a 64L Interpet fishbox which has 3 small pepper corys and 5 glowlight tetras. It is well planted and all seems well but how often should I change the foam inserts and the carbon inserts in the PF2 internal filter?
Thanks in advance.

I'd say carbon inserts aren't necessary unless you're removing meds from the tank. You dobt need to change the foam till it's literally falling apart as it stores all the good bacteria. Just give it a swish in tank water you've removed when you do a water change and pop it back in. Don't use tap water as the chlorine will kill the bacyeria

Thanks, so if I dont use the carbon do you think I should just put plain foam in the carbon side?

Thanks for the advice guys. I normally do a 30% water change once a week so if I give the filter sponges a clean up then it should keep it all in good shape.

Make sure you only ever wash the sponges in old tank water; tap water will kill off the good bacteria :good:

Hi, I am new to keeping fish, and have started with goldfish, so will need some good advice. I have bought a 25 litre aquarium, with internal filter and everything seems fine , have treated the water beforehand and my 3 goldfish are happy, so far, so good. The Aquaruim shop I bought it from says that I need to change the water every 3 weeks, is this period also ok to clean the filter?
Also, a silly question:- Is it safe to switch the filter off overnight and then leaving in on only during the day?
Does it have to be on overnight. is the electricity it uses negligable?
Thanks.

25 litres is not big enough for even one goldfish let alone three. You need to rehome them as soon as you can. Was your tank cycled before you add them? if you do keep them in there for any length of time them you should be changing a hell of a lot more water than once every three weeks. 2/3 times a day just to keep the ammonia down I would think! And no you should not turn your filter off at night, why have you got any reason to?

I would suggest returning your goldfish straight away and reading up in the begineers section before you do anything else with that tank. Really I think you can only home a betta in that tank, I know I wouldnt put anything else in it.

Sorry for the thread hijack op
