Filter Queries

I have been using aps filters now for 5 years, I was so impressed I have changed all my filters to aps ones now I run the 2000ef with and without uv and the 1400, out of nearly 20 filters I only ever had a problem with one, which was replaced straight away for me. Excellent company :)
Its too late now that the filters ordered but is this a noticible difference in water quality between your uv and non uv filters?
My first big disappointment was my own fault, I convinced myself that my filter would be waiting for me when I got home from work. Wasn't, gutted :-(

I have some tanks in my conservatory which as you can imagine get heaps of sunlight, the aps with uv keeps the water free from algae, it will still grow on the glass but the water is clear, for that the uv is excellent. I use the other uv models for rescue fish that come in that could have problems, it helps with any possible bacterial problems while they are in quarantine. They are great filters :)

Forgot to allow for the big hinges on the door when measuring for the filter. My 30cm quickly turned onto 28cm and I needed 29. Couple of brass hinges later and problem solved. Didn't realize the size of the filter until I watched a video review, it dwarfs my old 206!

How is the filter going? All setup and lovely?
Literally just through the door from work to find my parcel waiting. Its like being a kid at christmas. Need to calm down and get a cuppa before I open it. :)

Let us know what you first think of it and how easy is it to set up and all that sort of thing!

Always nice to come home to a nice big parcel with something exciting in it!

First thought as I opened the box was OMG what have I done. Its massive and the bid weighted a ton, I always thought my 206 was big but the APS 2000ef is BIG. Not sure what I was expecting. Delivery was a day late but not bad considering I live in Northern Ireland and of course being christmas.

Is there such a thing as the best way to arrange the media?

Have the cannister out of the box and have to say the build quality and materials are impressive. It feels firmer and more sound than my fluval. Sounds daft but it looks and feels like I can trust it. Came with 4 trays, with of which are stuffed with carbon, rings and bio balls and 4 cotton pads. Any advice on how to arrange these would be great or is it just personal preference? Diagrams for builting inlet and spray bar look a tad daunting.

I know its a budget filter but the cannister is great, the hoses look heavy duty and yet piping looks very cheap and feels scarily flimsy. The pipings the only bit of the filter we get to see once setup. Small complaint but for the price I can live with it.

So the hose is heavy duty and the piping flimsy. Any advice on how to push the hose over the flimsy fitting with breaking it?
Not sure how 2 suckers are going to hold the spraybar plus the heavy hose.

Assembley complete but not yet running as I've not filled the tank yet. So far everything has fit together quite easily which is good as the instruction booklet was more of a leaflet. Having a little trouble with the spray bar as one of the adjustable fittings has been glued in place. This means I have to position the spray bar 2 inches below the water line.

The best way to have the media is the bottom up... The flow goes down the tube/holes thru the media trays then filters upwards thru the baskets.

So course blue on bottom with fine floss ontop in the bottom basket (then probably same again if you have the 4 basket version)
Then all the ceramic that you can fit into the next basket.
Then another fine floss with the black plastic bio balls ontop

Thats how I did mine anyway, always runs lovely and no particulate matter clogs the ceramic media.

Agreed the plastic fitments are a little flimsy. Heat the ends of the tubes up with hot tap water...

Sorry this reply is really late! Had a heavy one last night!

Filled the tank and flew through the whole setup of the filter, at this point I was rather chuffed with myself. Then I tryed to prime and start the filter, the filter fired up ok but there was no water flowing. Tried pre filling the canister but still nothing. 1 hours head scratching later I noticed my inlet and outlet were the wrong way round, duhhhhh! It gets better. I rushed in to fix my mistake taking both hoses off and noticed there was water in 1 of the hoses. Thinking this was a bit dodgy I decided it would be simple enough just to blow the water back into the tank, wrong again! Water came flying back down the hose with force, I got soaked before I managed to ram the hose in my mouth effectly creating a human water balloon. Genuinly wish I'd had a camera, it was me on my knees with a hose in my gob banging the wall trying my best to scream for my daughter who came down and pulled the inlet pipe out for me. Thank god for school holidays. Look before you leap!

Would love some pictures of the filter, and maybe your setup. :)
Wish i knew how to post pics properly. Anytime I've tried in the past it would put the web address of the pic in the post instead of the actual pic.
I can hear running water from inside the canister, is this normal. I've listened to my 206 and all I hear is the hum of the motor. Also getting a lot of air bubbles, I've given it a good shake and got loads of bubbles but Its still pumping bubbles every so often.
