Filter Media From Koi Pond

can some of the media (sponge or Bio balls) from a koi pond filter be used to help cycle an aquarium (fishin)?

I would be hesitant about using it especially if it was outdoors. I think (but no definite) there could be some nasty bacteria that don't affect pond fish but would affect tropicals, maybe someone else will verify that.

I definately wouldn't as you often get parasites in pond fish, like anchor worm which could wipe out your delicate tropicals.

That's what I meant.....parasites (it was 2:45am hen I posted that)

You can, but you do have to keep an eye out for parasites.

thanks so much for the replies, I'm going to pass on adding the media from the koi pond filter... don't want to exchange one problem for another!
