Filter For A 60 Litre

Hi guy's I think the filter I currently have is on it's last legs. I cleaned out the tank Sat only for it to go cloudy and smelly Tuesday. Its only a 60 litre Tank and is home to my growing Apple Snails (173) at last count. There are live plants in there and white Roman gravel. What would be the ideal filter for this set up. Like most people I'm looking after the pennies at the mo so resonably priced is a must.
