You're putting your males together to watch them fight? :/

Oh brother.....
I hate your post.

Perhaps you should tke a gander at plakatthai.com to learn how to care for fighters. At the moment, I doubt you have true "fighters" though, most likely just pet shop veils

You dolt.
The fish you have are probably weak petstore stock that will get ill and keel over after one injury. I personally am opposed to betta fighting, but if you're going to be so cruel, ignorant, and bloodthirsty as to do it, you should at least do it properly, with strong, well-bred stock from someone who specifically breeds strong, healthy fish for fighting. Though honestly, if you're only getting fish to watch them wound or potentially kill one another, you aren't a very fit animal owner.

People like you make me absolutely sick. I recently rescued a betta that some moron like yourself put in with another male in a store for kicks; the one fish was nearly killed it was so wounded, completely unable to escape in the undersized cup, or even properly submit to its opponent. "Domesticated" bettas have finnage that inhibits thier ability to fight or escape efficiently. And unlike in the wild, they can not escape their opponent after a brief dispute because they are confined to a tank. So fighting captive bettas is hardly a natural activity that your betta needs to thrive in captivity. In fact, captive bettas do much better when kept entirely solitary; less stress on them, poor weak things that mass-breeding has made them.

If you like violence so much, go watch the news or attend a hockey game instead of torturing animals.

Wait a minute you all don't know if this person is a newbe to bettas and didn't know that they killed each other. But that is pretty sick to put 2 fish together that are called FIGHTERS! :grr:

well @ first i didnt put them 2gether 2 c them fight iv owned all types of fish so a friend of mine had it with sum other fish & they beat it up pretty bad so he gav it 2 me i all ready had a betta so i put the fish in my floating breeder tank & it hoped out in 2 my tank & since i have lots of fish in my tank (no its not over filled) its hard 2 get such a lil fish with manny hideing places & since thier never fight theirs no need 2 up root my whole tank 4 them so i called them fighter not cuz i fight them like that jus cuz i dont like the term bettas so i figured i might as well make them tougher & use the almond leaf 2 heal its fins & make it look better

Oh wait, so you took the betta out of one tank with other fish, and placed it in another tank with fish?
That makes no sense.
You are making no sense.
Please use sentances, as no one can understand your short talk.
Its nice to use for texting, but bad online.
Use complete sentances! (I feel like my teacher when she gives her whole "I'm sick of 3 word answers on your tests!" speech  )

Well, you can see how it was misinterpreted :S
How bigs the tank, out of curiosity.
And you can get almond leaf on Aquabid, or in the buy/sell forum here.

Eh. No offense, but I'm almost 100% certain you're lying now that you got a negative response. In your post you asked how you could "toughen" your "fighters," because when you put them together, they flare and "look like they're gonna go at it" but the "never do." Clearly, you were asking for advice on how to make them more aggressive so you could see a good fight. Please at least stick with your origional story instead of cowering back when you don't get the response you were hoping for.

However, providing you aren't lying, and you have 2 bettas living together in a tank, you need to separate them. It would hardly "uproot your whole tank;" just scoop one out and put it in a little 1g by itself. Both fish will be happier that way, and you won't have to worry about IAL to heal thier fins. Honestly, if the fins are badly damaged, you might do better off with bettafix. Besides, IAL can alter the pH of your water; are your other fish Ok with blackwater conditions? I'd look into that before adding any, or you could really hurt your other fish.

It seems the most ideal thing here would be to put the two bettas in separate tanks alone so you can treat thier injuries and prevent fights.

Great point RandomWiktor.
Something was funny about that post, I should've read it more carefully.

I re-read it several times after the second post and I am still confused.

But I agree, catching one should be easy, they have to come up for air some time!

srry 4 all the confusion but i got a betta from my friend he had firemouths & all that #### they beat his betta up kinda bad so he gav it 2 me so i put the betta in my floating breeder tank then betta hoped out of the breeder tank & ended up with the other fish the other fish are like tetras & balla sharks all those tropical fish & thier not agressive & when i wrote put them 2gether i meant like when they come in contact with each other its a 75 galon tank & i didnt wanna chase the fish a round & mess with all my other fish so i jus left them in hier i wanted 2 make the tougher because once in a while the nip @ each other so i didnt want them 2 realy get in 2 it & 1 end up dead so i wanted 2 MAKE IT TOUGHER

Much safer than making it tougher, as I'm sure you've realised by now, would simply be to take it out altogether ;) It would spare your fish the stress of encountering each other at all, and be much kinder in the long run :)

^ I agree with Andie.

But, I also find it interesting that in a 75 gallon, with many other fish, many of which are probably much larger, they still find each other to bicker and fight. Oh, bettas.
