And after a few change around over the weekend and a new background today we have this!

I would move the filter closer to the surface so that the top knobbly bit is above the water line and point the outlet diagonally across the tank (corner to corner) this will improve flow and aeration. You were right to turn the "cone" to facing the top of the tank though.

I have had it above water line before and was shooting bubbles out the filter wasnt keen on it due to having the bubble maker next to it but that was on the old set up i might look into doing that in a bit.

What do you man i will have better flow with it facing corner to corner?

The bubbles that come out of your filter are finer than the ones that come out of the bubble maker and so are better at oxygenating your water. In fact, the bubble maker is unlikely to add much oxygen to the water at all, and is mostly for looks, if you like that kind of look.

But the main reason I suggest move it closer to the top is not for bubbles. It's because it will move the surface of the water more and increase oxygen transfer - which is what many believe is the best way to oxygenate your water :)

When I say increase flow, I mean increase the range of the water current around your tank. This will help to keep it cleaner because it means particles in the water and on the substrate are more likely to get sucked into your filter.

Mmm I actually had mine set at the lowest point because I have a betta but I think you should find the medium ground that you are happy with while balancing: strength of current, amount of surface agitation and noise. Also remember you can adjust the little flap on the top to reduce the amount of air it's sucking in. The more closed it is, the quieter and less bubbles get pumped into the water. If I remember correctly you still get plenty of surface movement with it closed but you lose the tiny bubbles.

Ok ill have a look Ive moved it up now and left the rate th same ill see how it gets on :)

Yeah they are quite adjustable, it does take some playing around. What size tank is it again? Is that the PF1 internal filter? If so, and your tank is a 64L like I think I remember, then you could do with a more powerful filter as I think the top amount the PF1 can handle is 64L and the filter capacity is always over estimated.

On second look at your picture it looks a little fatter than the PF1 I was using so maybe it's the PF2....

Tank is 64L and is a PF2 filter.

If i was to put more plants the same as i have already around the back of the castle in front of the filter would i block it?

Good good, I've only just begun with plants myself but it's a question I've also wondered lol. I've seen people plant in front of their filters so I guess it's ok but my thought would be that the plants would catch the gunk instead of the filter! Hopefully someone else will answer!

Also ive seen people cover the heaters in plants.

If im honest i really need to replace the left plant as the roots have fallen apart from so much replanting trying to get it right. Ill leave it abit just to make sure im happy and till i find the same to replace it plus it seems to be growing still lol

They need to do something and the guppy need to stop seeing them as dinner :shout:
