females bettas

If you want a female betta from petco, you'd have to ask someone where the bettas are. In petco, a lot of the time they'll sell you a male with small fins and be like "yeah here's a female" when in reality you could tell off the bat that's a male. They take their buyers for morons, and they're uneducated in the animals just as much as their supervisors. Anyway... they do sell females, just not as often as the males, just becareful and observe them carefully making sure they ARE females, because a lot of time they throw them in a male cup.. which also ticks me off as how they keep them in 1/4th of a pint. Makes me sick.. those fish need to have more space; just because they prefer a still environment doesn't mean they prefer a cramped space. I've had betters produce more nests, show signs of health, and coloration, while having a larger appitite when in atleast a gallon and a half of water.

As i just ranted a small bit... the answer is, next time ASK for a female. If they don't have one, look somewhere else. We're not petco employees, we can't help any more than your knowledge on the subject.
