Feeding Vegies

I boil them, then take off the shells then crush them, as I was advised to do, that said my fish aren't that keen on them.

I love peas!

But my fish don't. I've tried shell on, shell off, whole, split and crushed. All the fish ignore them except the goldfish who, quite honestly would eat pieces of car if I put some in the tank.

I've had a lot more success with brussels sprouts. Boiled and placed in the tank whole.

All the community tank fish love 'em.

Haha! I HATE the peas in Cup-of-Noodles, so I take out the peas after boiling them and give 'em to my Red Pearl Flower Horn. She absolutly loves the stuff!

i tried zucchini once because i read somewhere that plecos love it and that the other fish will devour it too. When i finally removed it (maybe 24 hours later) there wasn't even one bite out of it. Guess they hate it as much as i do

Again, ours love zucchini (corgette), but we do have a lot of plecs!

I wash it, then slice it lengthways and place a piece around six inches long in the tank with a plant weight attatched.

Withing minutes, our violet plec who always finds it first and latches on. She can rasp a large hole all the way through a half inch thick piece of zucchini in about 20 minutes.

Then the golden bristlenose pair attatch themselves to it. And one by one, all the plecs have a go at the veg. The most we've seen sucking on it at one time was eight!

A piece of zucchini six inches long by two wide and half an inch thick vanishes in about an hour.

I use cucumber, my Gibby loves it, he'll eat the flesh and clean all the skin off. He can't eat the whole thing though as a 1 inch peice starts to rot after a day and I remove it, I know when it is starting to rot as the tetras start nibbling at it.

He also loves lettuce leaves.

My others are like me, salad dodgers.

your barbs migth eat peas Tropjunky...worth a try, anyway. my tetras arent keen on them but they get some anyway from time to time cos it's good for them :p

I microwave them in a dish with about 2cm of water over them, then shell them, and mash them up really small with an onion fork

Hey TropJunky

I regularly feed my fish peas (put in boiling water for 5-10 mins then in cold water to cool them, pop them out of the shell and then squash them up with ur fingers). My platies, SAE and guppies go mad for it, and my amano shrimp eat up whatever is left on the gravel.

Its actually good for most fishes to have some regular veg in the diet to help them clean the system, especially if they eat a lot of dried foods.

Also helps out "allegedly" with swimbladder problems in some fish. I did try this once before and it did help out one of my platies, so maybe it does work.

Hope this helps.

Most of my fish eat peas....bala sharks love them,as do clown loaches, swordtails, mbunas.bristlenoses, to name but a few. I don't cook them....I take some out of the freezer, take the skin off and put them straight into the tank. My fish also enjoy courgette, cucumber and lettuce. :)
