As the title says, what can I feed pygmy cory fry? I have liquifry for egg layers, which I'm hoping will be suitable first food. I also have microworms and can get some bbs hatching, but thought they might be a bit big for the first week or so.
Any suggestions?
I've only found about 5 eggs that look as though they are fertilised and 2 fungusy ones. Fingers crossed, most will survive.
Thanks in advance
K

liquid fry is fine for the first couple of weeks. Add some to a phial of tank water and shake it up. Then pour the solution into the tank with the fry. Do this several times a day.
After a week you can add microworms and newly hatched brineshrimp.
If you have vinegar eels they can be offered after a few days. Infusoria can be used instead of liquid fry.

They will actually take microworms right away colin, and bbs after 2 days.

well that makes it easy then if they take microworms straight away.
I've never tried feeding cory fry on microworms from day one. I should next time I get some. Thanks for the tip 5teady. But if they die I'm gonna blame you :) only joking

lol, no dont blame me.

With the ones i have bred, i have put microworms in for them for first 2 days then after that i use bbs, also regardless i always drop in a crushed pellet as well, with me doing it in a breeding net rater than a tub, it stays perfectly clean :)

cool I'll give it a go next time. The breeding net is a good idea because you always get a lump of fungus in a rearing tank unless you syphon the bottom out each day.
does it work for all corys or only pygmy corys?

All corys....

The thing is, the crushed pellet i put in does not go to waste cos i have 2 cherry shrimp in the net to keep it cleaner, also you dont have to siphon the net cos most uneaten food either the shrimp get, or the snails, or it gradually falls through the holes in the bottom, the net i still 100% clean and its been through 3 lots of fry up to now and there is a few fry in there now as well.

Here is what i grow them in...

Brilliant idea, the net that is. I'll transfer the eggs to that istead of the little tub they are in. The cherry shrimp don't bother the fry?
I've bred Albino cories successfully and hope I have as much sucess with the pygmies, but they are so small, I wasn''t sure if microworms were going to be too big. They should hatch anytime now, looking closely, I can see the little wrigglers moving in their eggs. Really wish I had a magnifying glass!
Thank you for the usefull advice.

Great pictures 5teady.

For my next go round if I can't get the parents moved in time I'll try the net trick. I bought the stupid thing months ago and only used it once to capture 1 solitary red wag platti which 30 minutes later I moved into my fry tank with the corys.

The problem I had with my net (which is the same as yours except mine is green) is that the babies swim under the bottom cross pieces (between the cross piece and the net). Can't they get trapped or hurt there? That's why I moved my baby out.

<I must have way too much time on my hands to ask stupid questions like this>

I've used the net before for my galaxy fry and none ever got stuck, even though they did regularly go under the cross pieces.
Any way, my pygmies have hatched (in the net, with a couple of cherry shrimp) I now have 7 little pin head sized babies flitting about.

Pin head? Well, I'd fit right in!

Mine just laid eggs again (lord give me strength) and I decided to move them to the net in the fry tank vs just putting them into the tank directly. I needed to move them to the fry tank because the 20 has FINALLY started to cycle and is showing a nitrite reading of .25. Not good for fry.

Let's see what happens....

I've seen some local posts (another Canadian forum, sorry admins) of pygmies for sale and from what I've read these guys are pretty cool.

Cheers.

Just a quick update. 7 little pygmy cory fry doing very well and growing surprisingly fast! They've now been released from the net and are in with the parents and cherry shrimp.
Thanks for all the help and advice.
