IS IT ADVISABLE TO FEED THEM AT NIGHT OR WILL IT MESS ABOUT WITH THE WATER CHEMISTRY

ALL HELP MUCH APPRECIATED

I would feed the other fish as usual, then drop in an algae wafer or two after lights out.

Now i know your situation, because when i first had my gebbicep, he seemed to always hide and never come out to eat... The case is not to worry, they are actually getting food whether you see it or not...

You say you platies go after the algae wafers and such, but you must say they dont eat it all, because it breaks down into dust particles and drop into your gravel (Correct me if i am wrong) and not just this some flake if you are feeding flake is dropping to the bottom and getting logged in the gravel too... Now normally logged flakes platies and other will track down, but they never completely (Or never normally) eat the whole algae tablet, now Pleco and such will not come out when they are being watched sometimes, because they are actually quite smart fish and so know when you watching or what not, so here it is, they will come out from time to time and they will suck that dusty particles the platies left in the gravel out, and their sucktion is quite powerful so they can suck it up from a deep level in the gravel, also when you flakes are floating towards the bottom of the tank and there is a flow and the flow carries flakes into their hiding places, they are bound to nab it there...

If they are not doing these then you do have a problem, if the pleco has a sunken belly then this will point to them not eating, and so it could be a illness or something

If anything, i would advise checking them as best as you can, as soon as you are settled there is nothing wrong with them, test out if they are eating by dropping food into their hiding places before the other fish can get to the food and see what their actions are... thats the only way to know if they are eating or not really if you are seriously that worried

;)

I feed all of my tanks three times a day. Once when i get up. When my mom gets home from work. And once about 8:30 p.m. I think that it is ending up being way too much though. I am going to cut it down to two times a day and see what happens.

3 is way too much. I feed my fish once every other day.

I feed once a day and use different feed every day, flakes and tetra diskus, frozen black mosquito larve, frozen brine shrimp and a frozen green pea, shrimp and vitamin mush thet I get from my LFS. I feed in the evening and drop in an algea wafer every other day or so for the pleco just before lights out. Every week to ten days I skip a feeding if the Swords are not near birthing. I think feeding them in the evening is best since I get to watch the frenzy and the fish seem more active when they have to wait for it.HTH
