Princess of Burundi cichlid. That was a new one on me. What a cool looking fish! Did you know that Burundi does not, in fact, have a princess? Just as well. She might not appreciate having a fish named after her. Even a really pretty one.

If that Princess of Burundi is what I think it is , Neolamprologus brichardi , then that is indeed a very cool fish. That fish may just be the ideal dwarf cichlid for anyone in North America. Our hard , or semi - hard , alkaline water is perfect for them. The breeding habits are something that has to be seen. They are multi-generational meaning that the fry care for their successive generations after them , helping the parents. I had three generations at once in a 20 high and it was cool. I had no trouble at all giving these fish away. Everybody wanted them.

Ιsn't a 20 high a bit small for 3 generations?
Yes, it was. That's why they eventually went but at first it was ideal. I saw a picture somewhere on the Internet of a huge aquarium with what was estimated to be a colony of them numbering in the hundreds. If you ever get the chance to find these fish don't pass them up.

LFS has them... but what l have available is a 20 gallon 😭 Don't wanna have them cramped in that...

Can they be in a 40g with other fish?...
I should check out their water requirements

Oh wait... They require water on the harder side... I have soft water sooo... Yah 😕

Get them ! It will take a year before they over run you and you will have no problem at all selling the excess fry. You will probably like them so much that you'll run out and buy a 55 gallon for them.
Only problem is my parents. They WILL let me get them but not a bigger tank... LOL. Otherwise l'd buy them in a sec!

Same lol.
The biggest I can go is a 40g breeder.
My parents already don't like the idea but their open to it 😅
