Fang's Puffer, Red Spot Puffer, Tetraodon Cochinchinensis

I believe I have bought one of these, after being labeled in the shop as a red-eyed puffer.

So far he has removed my thermometer, twice... Must not like it. And isn't taking a liking to the magnetic cleaner.

A positive ID Would be great!

The target puffers are very hard to ID, and you're in luck because they all need pretty much similar requirements. read the pinned topic on puiffers in aquaria for details.

I believe that is Tetraodon abei. But like I say, they're very hard to ID.

I'd give up on the thermometer as well, using a strip outside of the aquarium is much better with puffers!

Having googled 'Tetraodon Abei' and then looking at my puffer they look nothing alike.

I will get a better picture of him in the next few days, he/she gets very jumpy when the light is on.

Feeding, The shop have been feeding there's wax worms, meal worms and frozen blood worm (thawed). Is there anything else i should be looking into getting? I have a few 'pest' snails in my community tank, are these suitable?

Some of the google images are inaccurate and of other species. They also vary wildly in colour depending on mood. He should rip through snails, Mines diet consists of Mussels, Prawns, Snails, Cockles in Shell and Bloodworm.

Not really.

No sexual differences are known as far as I am aware. They're a very aggressive puffer for their size, and generally will not tolerate tankmates or conspecifics.

I only feed my Salivators every other day, and the same with my old T Turgidus (RIP)

Abit concerned, He is sitting at the bottom not moving. But breathing rather fast, normal?

Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Nitrate - 5ppm

Temp - 24c / 75f

Take it he's just sulking?

i just brought a fahaka puffer the other day and he just sits on the bottom of the tank too and doesn't really do much.. im not sure if this is normal 'puffer' behaviour?

Has he had a feeding recently, mine will sit on the bottom and breathing looks quite heavy when he is digesting a meal.
