False Siamese Tiger fish question

could i change the big plec for 2-3 BN's or a group of khuli loaches, and 1 pair of my cons are showing signs of spawning at the minute and my malawis just stay clear, the pair of cons have taken the back right corner behind one of the many rocks in the tank and everyone else stays away from them.

ps. what is the silver dollar with black spots and red bottom fin? as thats the one i like

I would be worried about the BNs getting battered and the khulis will probably disappear. Cons do get extremely aggressive when breeding. How big is the tank there in now? i think it would be best to move them to this tank because its best to keep CA and african cichlids separate.

they are in a 140lr with 3 yellow labs, 3 blue dolphins, 2 OB peacocks, 2 aulunocara firefish, 1 aulonocara tangerine, 1 johanni and 2 that look similar to johanni oh and 1 unknown female stripy aulonocara, i kno its probably highly overstocked but my water is crystal clear and i keep ontop of water changes, i heard from so many people including the breeder i get them off that its best to overstock malawi tanks to distibute aggresion, not that have seen any.

ps, none of them are fully grown yet and the unknown female is the biggest at the minute

I would move them to the new tank because if they breed its likely to kick off. It is best to slightly over stock ma;awi tanks to spread out the aggression but i dont know to much about them.

well he heater for this tank popped on thursday last week so i am waiting to get a new one, i will paying for it on wednesday, then i will think about moving the cons over and start stocking it, i mite just go for a mixed tank with different 5-6" CA cichlids

Sounds good. The only thing to watch out for is close relatives to cons like T Bar cichld, honduran red points will all cross breed with cons and any fry wont be that wanted so you could get stuck with a load of fry.

i found it hard enough selling 300 convict young, i wouldnt wanna try gettin rid of cross breed young, could i put a green terror or jack dempsey in with the cons, my mates cons stand up for them selves against his pair of jack dempseys but i wanna make sure

Cons can stand up but if they do breed i think it will just end up in constant fights. But saying that the only way to really tell i to try sometimes things work out sometimes they dont so maybe give a GT a go and if theres to much aggression remove it.

was thinkin red terror originally but that would have to be the only fish in the tank so thats a no no, will prob get e female GT and see how it goes, if it doesnt work out i will have to rehome it and stick to what is known to be compatible, oddballs would be my ideal choice and when i upgrade i will definately get some rays and arowana but that will be a few months yet

What are you upgrading to?
Evan the smaller types or arowana i wouldnt keep in anything less than a 6x3x3 but 8x3x3 would be alot better.

8x3x2, will be in the brick shed so not a display piece unfortunately, unless i find a house with a living room big enough for it
Fair enough. I know what you mean my 150G has had to go in the garage because theres no room in the house.

my partner wasnt happy when she came home and saw my 100g so i kno she wont be best pleased to see an 8x3x2 but she gets over it very quick when it is filled and she knows i cant move it due too weight...lol
