Ok I have had fish tanks for about 1 year and all i had was fake plants .....

I have a 180 gallon fish tank.... and i want to put in live plants what will i need. and would a 48 inch t5 light be sufficient? and i would ranther not but co2 injection in it ? just because i dont know how

i have 5 jackdempseys - 5 peacock africans 3 female, 2 jewels, reg sail fin pleco, some nice blue black ciclid 4 (african mawiwi lake) 1 green terror, venoustus, and a king crab and 3 crayfish.... live happly together no fights amazing!

with those fish live plants wouldnt last very long.
You could try anubias, java fern, vallis, onion plant and amazon sword as they are amongst the toughest of plants. Easy to keep too.

What wattage is your light?

If is is over 2WPG, you will need Co2 injection.

Those plants listed above are low to medium light plants, so you would not need a lot of light for them. Pretty much what ever you think is appealing to you would be fine.

EDIT: I have 5 African Cichlids in my tank (species listed in sig) and I am proud to say that not one of those fish have touched my plants. I have a couple ferns, Anubias, swords, and an onion plant!

I LOVE live plants, but i don't have the money for upgrading my lights or buying co2, my LFS sold me some low light plants and they are getting out of control, please don't ask what they are as i've had a few beers to many!!!! , but i'm sure if you ask your LFS for low light plants they'll be more than happy to help.

Mark.

You can click on my sig where it says PLANTS AND CICHLIDS to get a better idea for what live plants will work in you tank with those fish. :good:
