Sounds like a swim bladder problem to me. When a fish looks like the tail weighing them down in the water it a symtom of swim bladder. Did the lfs catch them roughly.

Try some peas.
Does he look bloated.

Api liquid test kits there cheaper and good.. The only one in the api test kits that's not to good is the nitrate test kit, its not that accurate so I buy the tetra brand.

Can you turn the filter flow down.

Causes of swim bladder.
Bad water quality.
Poor diet.
Birth defect.
Injury.
Bacterial infection of the swim bladder.
Internal parasites.
Unstable temp.

They didnt appear to catch them roughly, but they may have done cause they came from 4 different tanks. Maybe Fire got roughed up a bit.

I think I can divert the flow, at the moment it is blowing out the top funnel only. I will change it to blowing out of all 3. Will it be ok to leave him in the 5 gallon permanently. He seems to like it there. he swims normally

Will he need any medication or will peas sort him out. How many should he have and how often.

He doesnt seem bloated to me.

I have taken some photos, and will send them in another message. Hope they are clear enough cause he doesnt keep still.

Thanks for all your advice.

Try the peas to see if that does anything.
Only time meds work on swim bladder if its bacterial.
He could of been caught roughly and damage his swim bladder.
Just a waiting game i'm afraid.
Is he back to normal now or still has a few problems.

Ok will give him a couple a bit later. He seems perfectly normal, swimming around quite happily. His tail isnt dipping he is eating normally, it is just so bizarre.

Am I right in thinking that I can get 3 guppies in a 5 gallon, or if not is there any other fish that he could live with cause I dont want him to be lonely, and I am really worried about putting him back into the large tank.

Sound like he recovered then.
Guppys I know they are small fish but they are active so shouldn't really be kept in anythng less than a 10 gal.
Give him 5 more days and if he still well add him to main tank.

Nice pics wish they were abit better to get a better body view of him.
He looks well he not skinny.

Glad you think he looks ok, sorry the quality isnt very good but the little blighter wouldnt keep still and we havent got a very good light in there either.

I will move him out next week then, didnt realise they need so much space.

Thanks ever so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

Keep a look out for long stringy white poo or clear mucas poo.
He looks ok to me but the pics are abit small to take a good look at him.

Just when I thought he was on the mend, I have checked him today and his poo is clear with white blobs in it. Does that mean he has an infection and I need to get him some meds. If so, what should I get or is it best to ask the LFS.

Is he eating well.
Clear mucas poo when still eating can be internal parasites.
Check his anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Swimming on there sides can be internal parasites aswell.

No, will do the pea thing right now.

Is it best to worm the guppies in the other tank then, will it be safe for the other fish, not really sure how this worming thing works if they are in a community tank

Ta

Its always best to worm fish anyway.
If the fish is infested with them the damage has been done. Internal parasites do alot of damage to the internal organs.
Swim bladder can be caused by internal parasites.
Try the peas, but usually clear mucas poo is a sign of internal parasites.
long stringy white poo can be constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.

Peas are going in now, is it worth checking his poo again today, will the peas work that fast.

Did you see the pics I put on today, would you describe that that mucus poo or long string poo. Oooh this poorly fish business is very confusing to a newbie.

Its hard to say in the pic but its looks abit transparant.
The peas don't usually take long to work.

Wow can't believe how much the fish like peas, decided to treat the fish in the other tank to some peas too just in case

Thanks Wilder you are a fish life saver
