i'm sorry, but that is hands down the funniest response that i've ever heard to a facebook mention. it's pretty ubiquitous here in the States; most people like the fact that you have to join before you can see anything b/c it gives an illusion of privacy. you wouldn't believe the level of protest among the members when they first started to let people join without a university email address.
