i am interested in purchasing an external heater but i have no idea which one or much about them and looking to some of you for help?

i've received some great advice so far on products and i'll be honest i am new to this game (well size of tank) but i fancy a really nice clean uncluttered tank. my new tank is going to be here in a week or two (39x17x12" - 140 litres so am told).

i am going to be buying a fluval 305 external filter, ive just purchased an interpet av4 air pump (which i'm going to be attaching 2x 18" air stones for the back of the tank) but wondered if anyone could help me or advise me on an external heater.

ive purchased this piece of furniture for my tank to sit on (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120923324213) and it looks beautiful, it must do as the missus is happy with it :) (so bonus points there) and ive explained to her that all my fishy items will be hidden in this unit ie: "not on show" :) (double bonus points)

any help would be very much appreciated.

thanks,

mark

Hydor external heater. check out aquarist classified, one on there for £25 bargain.

+1 The Hydor external heater is great! check the hose size on your filter to make sure you buy the right heater.

so the heater connects to the filter?

i am new to this, i have a little tank at the moment 28litre, this has a built in fliter and light and i use a stick type heater which just plugs into the mains and the heater obviously is fully submerse this into the tank, hence it doesnt touch the filter?

i am going to have to try and find a full spec sheet on the fluval 305 external filter i am looking to buy and then see if the above fits if you guys recommend it!

The heater goes on the plastic hose between the filter and the tank. There are different size hoses on different filters so you want to make sure it will fit first. The heater was money well spent and never regretted.

hi fishfanatic04, really appreciate all this advice :) is it a risk gettin the external filter now? if all else failed i could use an internal heater! but least if i got the filter which i really like the look of and have been told it'll keep a 140litre crystal clear i wouldnt be too disappoined if i had to just use an internal heater, at least if i had the filter in my posession i would know what size pipe etc?

I keep an internal heater as a back up anyway. You never know when you will need it. :good:
