External Filter, What To Get?! Confused...

Just one quick point; Vaseline is not the greatest thing to use. It can degrade some seals and it also goes really brown and clumpy.

Get a tube of silicone grease instead :good:

as stated, the 406 (which is just a prettier 405 with a couple of modifications) will be at its limit on a 350L tank. If you don't plan on having plants and you lightly stock the tank it might be ok though.

Fluval 406 - £140
Eheim pro 3 2075 - £175

That's if your buying new, both include media. If it were me I would put the extra £35 and get the eheim.

What website are you thinking of ordering off btw ?

In the shops and online in Australia that eheim model is about an extra $300! :(

406. :good:

The 2217 is a dated (although very good filter) design so maintenance is a pig.

Decided on the 406 :) If I find I need more filterisation I'll just get a second filter :) u use the 406?

Nope. Lol. I have a 305 which is pretty good. TetraTec are my choice, but as you say, you can't get them.

I'd have to disagree, Admittedly the last fluval I had was a 304 but it was a pain in the bum, difficult to prime, hard to reconnect, the "aqua stop" was awful. I have a 205 I'm going to set-up so I'm hoping its an improvement.

The Eheim classics though just work, you turn off the taps, and disconnect, clean the media and put back together, reconnect the taps and as long as you open them in the right order ( Output before input) the filter refills itself. In my opinion in terms of value for money, and build quality ( these things are almost bombproof) its the Eheim classic every time.

I run a 2213 and a 2217
