Experience With Mangrove Seeds?

Hello all,
I'm just collecting some mangrove seeds on a beach here in Rio de Janeiro (I don't even know the species...) for my low-end brackish back home. I know (I already have some) that the perfect choice would be a seed with a little green bud on top. This time (perhaps it's the season...) most seeds I find have blackened or missing (clearly broken) tip. Anybody knows if these seeds are just dead/unworthy bringing home?

Although it's a bit late, yes those seeds will never sprout leaves, the plant is dead for all effective purposes.

I can indeed confirm your diagnosis: nothing happened in my tank, but rotting.

Hopefully I'll get better next time I go...
