Is there any way to slow evaporation in my tanks? I currently run 3 tanks (5 gallons, 29 gallons, and 45 gallons) and just feel I am topping it off way too often. I don't mind doing it but I already have 3 tanks worth of fish to care for with feeding, water changes, and other maintenance so if there is a way I can add water less often I would love that. I do cleaning and water changes every 2 weeks at this point but I'm topping off the tanks a few times in between those changes.

The only thing that really helps with evaporation is a lid or cover. Thin plexiglass is actually not that expensive on places like Amazon, or at the hardware store. The stuff I recently purchased is thin enough to be cut with a sharp pair of scissors.

I have a lidless 10g, 20g long, and 29g tank. I definitely know the feeling...

A simple glass/plexiglass lid will suffice, and extremely decrease the amount of evaporation.
I was looking at at glass lids, looks better than the plastic that came with my tanks and you say they work with evaporation

I have glass lids on 8 out of my 13 tanks, and do prefer them over the plexiglass. The pricepoint got to me, as well as not being able to find glass lids for my 30 flatback hexagon, 15 column, 80 or 90 gallon tanks. The glass for my 10s and 29s were $12-$22 each.

The plastic lids should be helping, are they not?
They help some but there's a lot of extra holes for equipment, not quite sure what for tho cus the extra holes are much too small for any filter I know of and too big to just be for tubing or cords. Maybe the perfect size for FX6 tubing but I can't think of anything else. Either way, I think it is the extra holes that give me an issue.

I thought you had no lids on your tanks. You have not experienced true water evaporation until you have had a lid less tank.

You could make a custom lid out of plexiglass, it’s fairly easy to cut. (Or you can go to a hardware store and get them to cut it)

I have to cap off all my tanks once a week. But the water evaporation reminds me it’s time to do maintenance, so I’m great full there. ;)
