I am considering buying guppies or corys with a betta in a 10 gal tank. I haven't bought anything yet and would like some advice for equipment I will need as I don't want to buy a tropical starter kit.
I need to know about:
Hood
Condensation Tray
Lighting
Filter
Pump
Heater
Gravel
Plants
Rocks

And anything else I might need, like Water test kits etc.

Thanks
Phil

umm yea that should be ok

how much money do u hope to spend
and u might want to get some wood as they like hiding

lol man i got a 18 gallon fish tank with the stuff u want and its good not cheap

( buying the plants does not come free with the tank)

all for 100 pound and then u spend thing on the things to go inside the tank which prob comes to 130 pounds ( ph starters, rocks, plants, fish etc)

:) :)

Is it best to buy from a big pet shop or a small specialist?
Do you think it would be better to buy all of the equipment individually then?

well i would but it togther with the tank coz things might need replacin and u can just go to one place not all othere the place

Also things might not match in the tank
and i think it would be cheaper gettin it all together

Go to a place with just sells fish they no what there doin and the fish there will be healthy

Go to a specialist for the fish, but a chain store will probably be cheaper for the equipment. You need to make sure that you have test kits for the water, particularly Amonia, Nitrite and Nitrates. You will also need de-chlorinator and either pure amonia / fish food to cycle the tank, unless you can get some mature filter media from somewhere. You ought to have a pH test kit, but as long as your water is highly acidic / alkaline, then you don't really need to worry about it.

Have you had a read through the faqs about cycling your tank?

Bogwood's nice if you have space in there. You don't need it unless you have plecs, but it's nice to look at!

Just make sure you give it a good soak before adding it to your tank to remove as much of the tanin as possible. It won't harm your fish, but it will discolour the water a little when you first add it.
