Erm... at what size can you see the difference between a male and a female?
I've just been to the store, and all the emperors looked the same (and their about 2-3 cm)
It's very easy to sex Emperor Tetras. One, the males are larger (5cm) and have a crown in their tail fin. This is why they are called Emperor's :)

Right.
I'll just have to wait 'till they grow up and grow that "crown"

I think one of the males isn't well..
(the one i took pictures of)
you can see that he has red spot on/in his stomach.. At first i thought it was his color, but now that I look at him and on the picture it looks like it's inside-

Any ideas?

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. :byebye: I wonder what caused that red spot.

Emperor tetras are the next fish on my to buy list. I've been waiting over six months to put together a 50 gallon corner tank. They're going to be the first inhabitants. I just need to make room.

Emperor tetras are supposed to be aggressive amongst themselves. They'll fight for ranks often killing another in the process. This is why you're supposed to add them at the same time, instead of adding another male at a later date.

A few of my tetras died a while ago from a similar disease. I never found out wha tit was except for a *possible* diagnosis of septicaemia :(

(very pretty fishes btw!)
